Bartow is my home field, I'm currenty away in the UK so I've not heard any more than what is in the news brief. Looking at the location of the church in relation to the airport he could have been on left base for arrival into runway 9 or departing 27 when he hit problems, the church is just a...

    AOPA Dues going up again

I ran into Baker along with some of his clingons at KGIF last year during Sun N Fun, they had spent a couple of days at the show and called in at KGIF in a Caravan on floats to gas up...and in the words of one of his entourage..."That's the boring sh*t done, now lets get down to the Bahama's and...

    Where to get Tailwheel Endorsement?

You could spend a few days in Florida. Preston Aviation based at KGIF, Tim Preston is a much respected Tailwheel instructor, hes just celebrated 15,000 hours over 13,000 flying tailwheel planes. I did mine with him, mainly in a Super Cub but on my final day it was down for a bit of work so I...

One thing that should have been taught to you in basic training, but was not.

Same with me, I had the same CFI throughout my training and never once was flight following discussed or demonstrated. Same with Class Bravo, I trained inbetween Tampa & Orlando airspace and not once did he take me into the Class Bravo. The first time I had to go into Bravo as a newbie PPL I...

    Cedar Key

I was over at my vacation home Florida for most of March & April, and I can't ever recall so much gusty wind like it's been this Spring ! I pulled the plug on a few planned trips because of it. I'm back over in July then it will be dodging the pop up summer storms I suppose ! A friend of...

    Cedar Key

Great place to visit, just nail the approach, if in doubt go around, it does look shorter from the air when you first see the runway, but its a bit of an illusion,it's okay you'll do just fine. Here is a photo from back in 2012 before the runway was repaved.

LHR and British Airways Experience (rant)

Sorry you had a bad experience in the UK; I'm British and haven't flown with BA for over 30 years. I got fed up of being treated like they were doing me a favour by taking my money off me and letting on board their airplanes. I also try and avoid using Heathrow or Gatwick when travelling...I'm...

    Would this bother you, N/A

In the UK we not only have "quiet" coaches on some x/c trains we have "no phones" coaches, getting so popular we need more than one designated coach.

    LSA expo Sebring

I've done Sebring for the last 3 years, and each year I've come away a little bit more disappointed than the previous visit. Maybe the show is okay but it's just not meeting my expectations so I think I'll be giving it a miss for a while.

    Flight Bag You Actually Use

When I started my flight training years back I signed up for the Gleim training package, along with all the reading material came a flight bag. I've kind of outgrown it now and should really look for something else to haul my junk, but its like a pair of old pants, I'm reluctant to let it go...
