the Turbo 182 is back in production

Why did they stop innovating? This is a classic case of complacency and lack of adaptability. TTx was great, just late. By then Cirrus had taken over the market and anything Cessna branded was seen as a relic from the 50s. It’s sad to see them go the way of Blockbuster. I understand that...

the Turbo 182 is back in production

Hate to resurrect a thread from 10 months ago, but the renewed 182T production has piqued my interested. I reached out to a sales rep from Cessna and got a chance to review the pricing, options, etc. They're currently looking at 18 months from order to delivery. The 2022 model year was...

    Commercial written....

I second King Schools. Used their course for my PPL and IR, and then again CPL. Got 90%+ on all written exams. I’ve also supplemented my learning with Jeppensen books, but found them to be lacking in certain areas.

    Long XC for CPL

    Long XC for CPL

Point taken. Looks like I'll be doing the daytime VFR XC flight again for CPL, having already done it for PPL, and about a dozen times solo. Not sure I understand FAAs logic here, but then again, many of their regulations have none.

    Long XC for CPL

I decided to write to my DPE and ask him about doing this flight over the span of two days. One of my CFIs says it shouldn't matter. Another one say better to be sure. On a separate topic, another requirement for CPL is a daytime XC flight of 100nm or more, and lasting 2 hours in duration...

    Long XC for CPL

That’s a very valid point. Thank you for your suggestion. You’re absolutely right about the point of origin.

    Long XC for CPL

I’ve flown plenty farther than 250nm, just haven’t stopped at two airports along the way.

    Long XC for CPL

Ah. Thank you. We’ll, that kind of throws a wrench in the whole thing. Back to the drawing board.

    Long XC for CPL

I’m just about done with my part 61 CPL requirements. Checkride scheduled & written passed, just perfecting my maneuvers and looking to do that long cross-country. Would love a confirmation that the following flight will meet the requirements of that long XC. The flight will be solo. HPN -> N40...

CP flying for compensation for fractional aircraft owner?

I assumed it was common to own aircraft through an LLC. I had planned on doing so anyway, and appointing shares to the owners depending on the percentage of buy-in they put in. It’s hard to say what percentage of time he would have him fly him. I wouldn’t think that matters? I might consult...

CP flying for compensation for fractional aircraft owner?

An interesting question came up tonight between me and my father in law. He’s a big CPA who travels regionally quite often. I mentioned to him that I’m working on my commercial pilot license, and am looking at putting in an order for a new SR-22. He expressed interest in going in 50/50 with...

CPL requirements at a 141 school

I spoke to my CFI, who trained me for my PPL and IR. He also advised I do my CPL under part 61. Since I'm at 192 hours, he recommended I just keep flying, and somewhere in between squeeze in that long solo XC flight-250nm. He says I just need that flight in my logbook. It doesn't have to be...

CPL requirements at a 141 school

Ok, some good points here. Thanks everyone. Re: 10hrs instrument training: Understood. I need to fly under the hood in the coming months anyway to keep my instrument currency, so this will kill two birds with one stone. Re: Current school crediting hours: Luckily, I've been renting an...

CPL requirements at a 141 school

Thanks Russ, I see. So 55 hours of flight training? Yeesh, this is more than my PPL. I see your point about part 141 vs. 61 there. 61 might indeed be better for me. For part 61, the total time required is 250hrs. I'm assuming I can start my training via part 61 at around 210-220 hrs, and by...

CPL requirements at a 141 school

So, I'm trying to get a better mental picture of the requirements for a CPL through a141 school. I'm having a hard time finding the specifics online, as most resources mention part 61 requirements. Other resources still mention the 250-nm XC flight as a requirement, when I believe this is no...

    Depreciation on a 182

That's a very nice Bonanza, but for someone like myself, with recently acquired IR, and only 140 hours, it's a bit too much of an airplane. I'm looking for a solid IFR platform to build hours on and take on weekend trips with my two older kids. I don't think Bonanza is a good first airplane...

    Depreciation on a 182

Thank you! A most thoughtful reply. If one factors in inflation and money factor, then I suppose the argument holds true that the aircraft may very well hold its present-day dollar value. I'm going to take a few test flights in the 182 and take it from there. My wife continues to praise...

    Depreciation on a 182

Well, I appreciate those of you with seemingly endless supply of disposable income, but flying - as fun as it is - is one of the most expensive "hobbies", so having some grasp of its cost is a reasonable question.

    Depreciation on a 182

Thanks for your replies everyone. I did not know that non-WAAS G-1000 could not be upgraded after the fact. That's certainly something to consider. I do factor-in expenses for engine overhaul. At present, my finance breakdown is looking like this. If any current (or past) owner can chime-in...
