    Osh 2019 camping first time

Now I’m second guessing camping in Vintage. I think I’ll still stick with that plan for my first time, I may try the N40 next year. Planning on arriving early on Saturday.

    Just wow

I couldn’t even finish the video. I was cringing listening to the “helper” cirrus pilot.

    Oshkosh 2019 Notam

Thanks for the input. I’ve been watching lots of YT videos, watched the Eaa webinar, and have practiced in X-Plane with google maps satellite imagery. I’ll ramp up my prep and it seems like the whole process is actually very straight forward if you already know what to expect.

At a crossroads in the hobby

Go fly! Some of my favorite flying was in a da20. The stick will take you all of 1 minute to transition to. The slipperier airframe may take a bit more if you are used to cessnas like I was.

ForeFlight now has “local” phone numbers for clearance delivery

Interesting... at my home airport there is an RCO frequency for Knoxville clearance delivery but the phone number posted goes to Atlanta clearance delivery. I’ll have to call the next time I file out of there.

Plane down in river near DKX - Pilot OK

https://www.knoxnews.com/story/news/loc ... 495630001/ The 62-year-old pilot, who is uninjured and was the only person on board, had flown out of Skyranch Airport in Knoxville before his engine failed just shy of Island Home Airport. The pilot was flying a Flightstar ultralight plane. It is...

My Engine Broke During Takeoff - Suggestions?

Don’t have any engine advice but I’d love to hear more details about this event. I’m really glad you made it back on the ground safely!!!

Safety Pilot for IFR Student? Legal?

I’m not surprised. Many students go through their training and spend all the time with a CFI instead of a safety Pilot. This is certainly not a bad idea. Knowing safety pilot requirements isn’t important unless you will be acting as or using a safety pilot. That being said I like using a...

    Recommended PC for Xplane?

Agreed. X-Plane relies more on the cpu than gpu than any other game I’m aware of. I’ve got my i5-8600k overclocked to 5Ghz and it’s matched fairly well with a 1070ti with a slight overclock. That level of hardware isn’t needed unless you are venturing into VR.

Thoughts on flying with Lead Acid Battery (Portable Jump Start)

Is that a goal zero Sherpa 50 you were charging? Those look nice although the nomad panels seems a bit pricy. Your custom solution looks pretty good. Do you have any details on the solar panels you have there?

Thoughts on flying with Lead Acid Battery (Portable Jump Start)

Ok. I just looked and found a usb charger for my camera batteries which I’m excited about. I’ve already got a small solar panel and 2 small power packs so I should be good there. I’ll plan on hitting up one of the charge stations if I need it but I’m guessing the laptop battery may even last...

Thoughts on flying with Lead Acid Battery (Portable Jump Start)

My current thinking is not to do this, but I’m curious what everyone thinks about it and if there are any regs. I’ve got a portable jump starter that has a 12V 17Ah lead acid battery. I was thinking it would be nice to have this and an inverter at OSH for a few of my electronics that need AC...

    Recommended PC for Xplane?

I’d get the fastest cpu for the price. Currently X-Plane is CPU limited for most people as it’s highly dependent on single core speed. They are porting over to Vulcan to make better use of multi cores but no one really knows when that will happen.
