And over where the radio tower was is called "a cone of silence". I asked my 80 year old helo CFI and he said he flew them regularly a long time ago. They actually worked quite well at the time.

If you don't understand what they said because it was garbled say; "Say again". If you don't understand what they want you to do say; " Student Pilot say again". You will get the attention and clarification you need. Seriously, works every time. After 3,500 hours I still use it. :yes: :D. ;)

I met Dr. Bruce for the first time at Gaston's. What a passionate gentleman. His dedication and focus on keeping us flying knows no bounds. He pushes the envelope in his quest to define and clarify FAA regs. He is truly an asset to the aviation community.
