    Avemco vs AOPA AIG insurance

For someone who is constantly telling people how easy it is to research something you seem to be failing big time on this issue. he transaction is expected to close on Friday. By Treasury's calculation, the final round of sales means the government will have a net positive return on its AIG...

    Can't See Fuel on Dipstick!

So if you use the plastic straw method and you drop it into the tank you can use a coat hanger and bend about 1 inch on the end with a 90 degree bend and use that to slide it into the end to the straw and lift it up. On a 95 degree day on a ramp in the middle of Ohio it will only take you about...

    It has happened again...

One of the things that I think is very important to this discussion has not been brought up and that is the age of the child and what the corporal punishment is. A two year old who tries to grab a pan off the stove after being told no don't do that is a candidate for a swat on the bum as the...

    It has happened again...

So if you don't know your action may hurt/kill someone and your experience with that action did not have the same effect on anyone else you should be torn limb from limb? Bottom line is education needs to be there so that parents and people acting as parents understand just how frail...

    Inconsiderate Realtor

Maryland law is the same. There is a exception that if you tree falls and damages your neighbors house or other things then you are responsible but if the thing just lands in your yard, it's up to you to take take of it. I had a pine tree snap off about 10 feet up and it landed in my backyard...

    Disintermediation of FSS Briefers

Living inside the SFRA in the DC, I always call to confirm any TFRs. I've gotten the weather already so I mostly end up skipping that part. Like Jay I want a recording of them telling me there is no TFRs. I don't know that it will save me but it's better then nothing. My CFI buddy and I got...

...being a GA Private Pilot and flying yourself there: Priceless

Of course in this case the women set herself up for charges by throwing water on the guy. I am surprised that the guy did not press charges when they landed.

    Ipad kneepad or mount?

I have a full sized android tablet and used to just put it between the seats like a paper chart as that is what I used it for. I got a ADSB receiver and realized I wanted to see it all the time for traffic and so got a RAM mount for the copilots yoke. I can see it enough and it does not bloke...

Considering buying-in to the local flying club

We had the O-470 in our 182 rebuild last year by Zepher Engines a well respected shop and the rebuild was 22K. I think it was about another 4K for shipping and install to give you a idea.

Most Economical power setting by Tach Hour.

I'm curious, does it make any difference logging Tach vs Hobbs vs Wall Clock? I'm thinking that Tach time will be the smallest of the three numbers and so you can't get gigged for over reporting. I switched to Tach when I bought into my partnership as it's what we use for everything else and I...

Considering buying-in to the local flying club

Marty I've got a fair amount of time in a Cherokee 180 and I was taught and always used 10 gallons per hour for flight planning. Given that it's more like 15.00 a hour for maintenance. They have a Garmin 650 IFR GPS installed. updates for that run 1000.00 per year. Annuals at 2k a year If...

Considering buying-in to the local flying club

Our LLC is run much the same way, major additions/expenses need 4 out of the 5 partners to agree then everyone has to pay.

Considering buying-in to the local flying club

I'm in a 5 way partnership in a 182 and the costs you are listing seem very low to me. I would really want to see the books for this operation before I accepted those numbers as real.

    The world's most popular beers

I've been known to keep a six of Coors light in the garage refrigerator for when I'm mowing the law in 95 degree weather and need fluid. It's like water only a little bit better :)

A "Duh" Win-Win Idea for FBO's and Renters

The other option is to ask if you can rent the plane and agree to fly off the minimum hours over time. I did that one year that I wanted to take an arrow to Osh for a week. I ended up with 14 extra hours that I had to fly off before the end of the year for accounting purposes.

So here I sit at an FBO.....

The year it took me 3 days to get home from Osh to the DC area was the tipping point for me. I had it before the next Osh.

Need to Replace Transponder: What to do??

Not mentioned so far is that the GDL-88 has a version that has a WASS GPS built in and it adds 1020.00 to the base price of 3495.00 It's cheaper then upgrading your 430 but the down side is that you cannot get the WASS GPS data from the GDL-88 into your 430 so you won't be able to take...

What Did You Buy At OSH?

    Oshkosh is full!

Jay; It's not a choice. Group camping is put over there regardless. We wanted to camp as a group ( with 16 planes and perhaps 35 people ) so we took what they would give us. We used to gather at a airport about 80 miles away so we could arrive together but the problem with that is not...
