    Cleaning the smashed bugs off

I used Rejex and didn't find it made it any easier to remove the bugs. Lemon Pledge was recommended on BeechTalk and that's what I use now. Works great. I do not use it on the windshield however. I have a plexi cleaner that works well, forgot the name.

My father-in-law flipped out at me for taking my wife up during an Airmet Tango

I flew my wife and friends from KFRG to KMVY yesterday. Aside from the heat and haze, it was a nice flight. No bumps. Little gusty on approach but mostly down the runway. I would have worried more about losing the horizon over the water than turb.

A good plane. Bad broker. My first experience trying to buy a plane.

You didn't ask for advice, but heck it's the internet so..... buy a Tiger. For 85K you could get a beauty, enjoy flying it more and get every $$$ back if and when you sell it.

A good plane. Bad broker. My first experience trying to buy a plane.

At 85K I hope that plane had a killer panel. Didn't know Archers brought that kind of scratch.

    Mooney (what's wrong)

Since the engine alone costs more than that I would seriously question the sources sanity.

    CHECK YOUR FUEL

You're gonna love that unit. Had one installed in December. Easy to read, great for leaning either way and accurate fuel flow. Just make sure you adjust the K Factor. The avionics shops don't do that. After the first three or four flights go into the fuel management screen, see what the CGR...

    414 Engine Beam Replacement

Reminds me of a saying we old Range Rover owners have. "If it's not one thing, it's two"

Ideas? - Places to fly for a day or two trip - adirondacks/NY

Try Lake Placid (KLKP) You can take a free shuttle into town. Lot's to do. If you want to rent a car there is a lot in the area to explore. Ausable Chasm, Whiteface Mtn, rent a boat on Lower Saranac Lake. Canoe almost anywhere. Lots of food choices in Placid as well. It's mountain flying (for...

    Cross Country Aircraft

Nice plane. Not sure it's for a beginner and the insurance company will feel the same way. Nonetheless, with the right amount of instruction (with a BPPP instructor) I'm sure they won't cut you loose until you're ready. Go to www.beechtalk.com . There is a "twins" section with a lot of Baron...

    Cross Country Aircraft

Better not mind writing checks. Lot's of 'em. Neither plane, or the Aerostar, is for low time pilots.

    Cross Country Aircraft

Turbo normalized A36 with tip tanks is a sweet ride. Really comfortable for 3 or 4 with baggage. Will hold value reasonably well if a twin is in the OP's future. The Mooney is a sweet plane but I sat in one and it wasn't for me.

Nobody's gonna be happy in a Viking for 4 hours. I owned one. Great plane, but not for his mission.

Buddy wants to buy an airplane any ideas?

If I remember correctly the rear seat legroom in the Dakota is atrocious. 4 hour trip? Good luck.

    Question on Airplane Purchase

Bank wires don't always go through instantly so you might be standing around for a day before the funds hit. Use an escrow service. That's what they are there for.

    What is this instrument?

That's an early model of the turbo encabulator. No longer supported.

    P Ponk throwing belts

I agree it may be the crankshaft damper system. When I had a Viking I consistently lost belts (IO520) but only at certain cruise rpm's. After several trips to several shops it turned out to be the damper. Once fixed, never had another problem.

Why not a Sundowner? Another plane thread...

Buy a Grumman. A Cheetah will be cheaper than a Tiger and with all of you being lightweights should do just fine. With a canopy you don't need silly doors.
