I agree with both flyingron and jstone. The HIMS AME is required by the FAA (appointment on the line), to report findings to the FAA. It’s kinda their job....once a medxpress is “live”. So, finding a good one that you are comfortable with, and getting a consult with them is really in your best...

Read my thread “SSRIs deferral timeline **ISSUED**”. That will lay out what you’ll potentially be looking at...depending on your specifics..minus a few months perhaps if you don’t have any drug or alcohol issues. Find a HIMS AME and get a consult.

Sooo many thanks to you! Couldn’t agree more, flying is wayyyy more important. “If you can get it right” is where so many get it wrong. It won’t be this year...but one day I’m going to FLY into Bollingbrook to see my AME. Seems trivial to some I guess, but that’s a big deal to me.

Dr Bruce will probably be along to give expert advice. My guess...you will need a HIMS psych to confirm the misdiagnosis of bi-polar...because thats a non starter. A lot depends on your specific situation. What meds, how long, etc.. the short answer is no you aren’t locked in, but there is more to it....need more info.

Unfortunately there are many of us who are in the “line up and wait” category. FAA timelines are completely unacceptable....but what are we to do?

Dr B is always “at capacity”....however he will still take new cases at his discretion. If you send an email to him through his website, he should be very responsive and let you know one way or another

Well just to add a piece of my experience to the timeline....I just had some documents that got sent into OKC for my case take 3 weeks to get scanned in. That’s just scanned to be able to be reviewed. If you’re hoping for fast, I’ll quote from Grumpy Old Men...”you can wish in one hand and crap...

The FAA will tell you whether you need a HIMS psych or if a regular one would work...if they require it. It sucks because it’s not cut and dry....they aren’t so easy to read when it comes to what they may or may not require.

Yes technically you could go path 1. Will need to establish (from your drs documentation) when you discontinued meds...they will need a date. Also probably going to need a psych evaluation...my regional flight surgeon told me that they are requiring that more and more for SSRI cases. Definitely...

Sadly I think flyingron is right. If you are honest about the meds on the Medxpress, then I believe it’s a deferral. You see there has to have been some sort of diagnosis code written in your chart for the dr to even prescribe the rx. What is that diagnosis (accurate diagnosis or not)?

if you haven’t gotten the HIMS psych evaluation, then yes. Also I’m pretty sure that whenever you think you have sent everything, the FAA will find something else to ask for.
