Another consideration is coming back if you have a problem. Even morning dew on our short little grass strip makes it downright slippy if the grass is clipped short enough. I wouldn't count on brakes doing anything useful in the event you needed them.

I say go for it! We have two brothers learning with us now, one backseats and observes while the other is flying. Same airplane, same lesson, seems to be working really well. If a twin Diamond is your goal, see if you can find a DA40 available for you guys to train in. Best of luck!

They did here at CXY last summer. I don't think I've seen a single compass swing performed on it...mostly used as a transient Blackhawk and Chinook fueling pad. :(

Very true. The restart model 172s are heavy birds...now take that 180 horse and put it on one of the old skinny airframes and you have yourself a very decent performing airplane. The conversion involves swapping props (and the paperwork associated with that) as far as I know.

R model is kind of a pig comparatively. Look up your static RPMs in the book and run up to max power and see if it's making the book numbers. If it's not, then something is amiss. If it is...well...sorry about your luck. From your description, it kind of sounds to me that what you described is...

Can't say enough good about Kubota equipment. I've been hard on diesel Kubota tractors and UTVs. Real good stuff.
