I'm aware of Ed Fred's chart but where is it in the forum? Can it be pinned so its more easily accessible?

    Acting/Logging PIC Time

It seems that there are always people questioning acting/logging PIC regardless of how many times its been covered before so when I came across this, I thought maybe, just maybe, it may end the question forever. Yeah, right! It actually is a very good breakdown of different situations which...

    Learning the "old way"

Knowing the electronic age is with us to stay, I am trying to embrace it. However, having learned to fly back in the 80's with no GPS, I pads, tablets, whatever, I'm very grateful I learned the "old" way with paper charts and VOR and NDB navigation. As long as they print them, I'll always have...

Best Western - movie, TV show, TV series

As a kid, grew up with Hopalong Cassidy, Cisco, Red Ryder all Saturday morning programs. More recently: Lonesome Dove, Dances With Wolves and Spielber's Into the West, (at least the last two brought my people out from the Hollywood take on treacherous redskins! Hate that word. And although...

NA -- What is your favorite war movie?

Since Veterans Day is coming up thought it timely for this post. I'll start it off with: A Walk in the Sun (1945) Turner screens it once in awhile. Great movie.

    Good World Series

Know what you mean. Drove in that traffic for years. But with the 5m people attending the parade and rally, got to believe a lot of other roads were, shall we say, moving along quite nicely. Have no earthly idea where the folks lining Michigan Ave. parked but downtown must have been a...

    Good World Series

Watched their parade today on WGN. If you were on Michigan Ave. you needed earplugs. If you were northbound on the Outer Drive, yes traffic was stopping to wave to the 47 buses going southbound. If you were one of the 100,000 in Grant Park, hope you brought binoculars. Police estimate 5...

    Good World Series

No way can you let that go without a full explanation. Details. Last time I sat in Wrigley was in the 80's. Was living in FL at the time, kids grandparents were still in Illinois. Flew up with the kids and took them to a Cubs game on 4th of July weekend. We froze our butts off! But that's...

    Good World Series

Unless you have sat in Wrigley Field and watched a Cub game, you have no earthly idea how this feels to the greatest fan base in sports. I'm in my 7th decade and it feels OH SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Epulettes.... Where to get them?

Get the pilot outfit -- add a really dark set of sunglasses and a white cane. If you can borrow ATF's puppy, that's even better. Works to clear out the terminal every time!

    Vectors into a mountain

That's true. But at least it will tell you your MEA for your entire flight. Keep that altitude in mind when these things happen and at least you're not going to end up like this poor fellow did. I'm not knocking the tablets but there are some out there that still use paper for however long it...

    Vectors into a mountain

You're fortunate. I've known 3 in 34 yrs. Two were not their fault. When it happens to someone you know, it brings reality to the forefront and reminds you that aviation can be dangerous - but then so can driving on the interstate.

    Vectors into a mountain

A sectional which shows MEA will also do for terrain backup. While I know the aviation world is going to electronics, a cheap sectional backup doesn't hurt either at least until they stop printing them. Got to wonder if this was medical or radio.

    Free CFI

Throw me into the "cheap CFI" bag, too. When my instrument students would pass their practical they had a standing offer from me that at any time they felt they needed a refresher or safety pilot to remain PROFICIENT call me and I would fly with them for free. A lot of people helped me along...

    Bob Hoover went west yesterday

Saw Mr. Hoover many times. His "engine management" flying was a testament to proficiency and knowing your airplane. Too bad there are so many pilots out there that never witnessed what he did with that airplane! Will miss the hat. RIP - you were one of the greatest.

    Not to be pushy, but...

I have one of these shirts. Think every GA pilot ought to have one and wear it proudly!!!!! Unfortunately the FAA has absolutely no sense of humor and if you were seen wearing it they would turn themselves inside out to write you up for something.
