    AC out on New Med?

Aggie - I understand about the inner workings of insurance but can't help wondering if the FAA had this thought in their back pocket all the time:(

    IMC requirement for CFII

James I agree with you about instructors have ACTUAL IFR experience and in taking instrument students into actual IFR. Trouble is, and you can all get the clubs out now, in Florida (because I have firsthand knowledge) the 141 schools are so tied into their program that if the Chamber of...

    AC out on New Med?

What can I say, I'm old;) Yes, I was referring to the new basic med that takes effect in May. My son was at a FAAST meeting and the fellow running it mentioned there was an AC out on the basic med already. He (not my son) didn't give any specifics and I couldn't find anything. Just wondering...

    Getting back into flying........

Father of2 - check FAA's webinars and seminars listing for something in your area. And if you haven't but do have something in your area, attend the seminars. Good advice. They use to be called Safety Seminars way back when I was flying. https://www.faasafety.gov/SPANS/events/EventList.aspx

    Getting back into flying........

Hey Aggie, is The Smokehouse restaurant in Denton still doing business? Use to work at the hospital back in the late 90's and ate there frequently.

Not talking about the original one - this is supposed to be pretty new. Heard a rumor this was true but couldn't find anything on it. Help anyone?

    Getting back into flying........

Anybody ever do AOPA's Rusty Pilot seminar? From what I can see, sounds like it may be a good way to get back into flying.

Going to Sun N Fun this year....any tips?

Was there last year - going again this year. One note -- bring lots of money -- food is ridiculous! If you're not into watching the airshow that's a good time to visit the booths. Usually not as crowded. Some good deals are there to be had but watch out because you may find it cheaper just a...

What did you do for a living before Aviation

Trained and raced Standardbreds (harness horses - i.e. trotters and pacers).:)

    Quick learners

This kind of student is sure a lot more fun than one that after 6 hrs dual/practice still can't do a steep turn within tolerances! Oh, the inhumanity of it all:eek::eek: PS - that was 6 hrs solely on steep turns. If I remember, he had right around 70 hrs by the time he took his PPL ride.

Oh, the horrors, an engine failure 200' in the air on a 7200' runway

What would you expect?? Football season is over and the Cowgirls failed again. They have nothing else to report.:D

Large scale mgt experience - please stay non political

I'm only responding to the 2nd question -- I would like to see the next head of the FAA be someone who has been involved in both sides of the fence - 121 and GA. Along with that, someone who would surround him/herself with a committee of people from all facets of aviation and be willing to rule...

Trump calls out FAA "Nexgen" system

All I know is that the system is broke, has been for eons, and no one to date has done a darn thing about it. Trump is definitely stirring the pots and I for one am willing to give the guy a chance unless he messes with my Social Security. Unless of course, he raises my monthly check!

Trump calls out FAA "Nexgen" system

Putting a pilot in charge of the FAA -- what a great idea. Are you kidding??? This should have been the norm for decades instead of some "politically attached" person who knows absolutely nothing about aviation. And I hate to tell you, Pres, but Nexgen isn't the only problem in the FAA. How...

    Middle Marker and Inner Marker

Back in the 80's, the MM at KMCO was a reminder to the locals to check the runway ahead for obstructions -- like an 8' alligator! Not in the FAR's but an alligator once in awhile wasn't unusual. I use to take my PPL students to KMCO during their night training to show the lighting systems on...

    Too low!

This was on my noon news today -- said they snagged the top wire with the prop and the bottom wire with the landing gear. Good aim! And I agree with mscard -- what was the instructor doing? Any time in a Bo? Neither were seriously injured. Pilot says all he remembered was a flash of light...

At what point to pilots stop flying IFR

George & Gary -- I agree with you. Have a saying for all instrument pilots: "Currency goes in your logbook, PROFICIENCY keeps you alive." When you strive for proficiency and its just not there, time to check your Birth Certificate. Maybe the time has come!

    SR-22 down in San Antonio

For those who are keeping a tally on the SR22 vs. Bo's -- a Bo went down yesterday on approach to an Ozark, MO field. Hit the power lines 200-300 ft. from the runway. Two on board - an instructor and the NEW owner of the F35. Plane ended upside down, neither were seriously hurt (the...
