(UPDATE-BOUGHT A PLANE)Airplane NEWB - May need a plane for business, help me find the best option

Sorry, bunch of BS. I very much doubt that you consulted anybody, or that person knew anything about the tax laws, AOPA once wrote an article on this very topic, they quote specific IRS regulations, to make long story short it is virtually impossible to deduct pilot’s license expense from your...

(UPDATE-BOUGHT A PLANE)Airplane NEWB - May need a plane for business, help me find the best option

Yes, Garmin 500/600 are similar products meant for the retrofit market. Actually there is but one noticeable exception - some King Airs can be retrofitted with G1000, it costs a bundle however, over $300K if I recall. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

2017 Garmin Pilot vs. Foreflight vs. WingX

If FltPlan was “identical” in its look&feel and features to FF then I would feel stupid indeed to pay for something which is free, but it is far from identical, offers many cool features plus it’s price is inconsequential to my other costs of flying. Again, your mileage may vary, it is just my...

    Renter insurances...

My flying club forces me to carry renters insurance. If you have any “assets” it is a must. By the way the price you quote is very reasonable, can you provide me with the name of your insurer?? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

    Plane Missing Over Lake Erie

He got his training from FlightSafety, a very reputable place, they train airline pilots too. If we had your standards nobody would be flying anywhere except those that have thousands hours and once they died there would no one left to fly, pilots are not going to fly alone for thousand hours to...

    Plane Missing Over Lake Erie

Recent online FLYING picked up the story (author Rob Mark, 9/20/2018) of this crash and this what he wrote which I have no clue what he is talking about: “Adding to the pilot’s confusion that night may have been that the primary flight display on the CJ4 was different from that of the Mustang...

from NTSB: e. Subsequently, an NPS mountain rescue ranger was able to access the accident site utilizing a technique known as a short-haul, which allows transport of rescue personnel to otherwise inaccessible sites while suspended beneath a helicopter using a long-line.

crash in Alaska - impressive wreckage location

4 Polish tourists and the pilot perished on Aug 4 in Denali, Alaska after a pilot of a de Havilland Beaver flew into the side of the mountain in bad weather. The pilot who had 40 years experience flying in Alaska survived the crash and was able to make a phone call asking for help. The help...

    Scuba Divers question.....

Strangely worded question, normally divers are precise when they specify wait time between diving and flying. Second I would never consider flying at 1000’ between Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz, even if you plan on following coastline, I wouldn’t even like to fly at 3000’, not enough altitude to...

    Flew A Cirrus today. Long

Once you learn it, it is easy. But it is imperative to have a G1000 simulator (Garmin calls it PC Trainer) on your desktop computer in case you want to refresh certain procedures.

    Ipad mini question

I also have had very good experience with IPad mini 4, however I don’t pair it with any GPS, I only use it for flight planning and as an EFB in flight, map panning is very fast and smooth but it is even faster in ForeFlight than in FltPlan Go. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

How much do you use foggles / view limiting device after you get your IFR ticket?

On the subject of foggles, I purchased so called JeppShades, recommended by my flying club, yes, great idea but very poor execution, they fell apart in 5 weeks and this item has only 30 day warranty. I was surprised that such renowned company as Jeppesen stands behind such poor product.

CFII Debate - GPS in lieu of DME

Like I said - it ultimately worked, ILVK was in the database.

CFII Debate - GPS in lieu of DME

Strange indeed! I finally actually succeeded, I was "flying" west of KLVK and then it refused to load but as soon as I positioned myself east of the airport (sort of ready to fly the LOC) - it did load!! Hmmm.. not sure why it is so fussy.

CFII Debate - GPS in lieu of DME

I don't think it is possible, at least not in G1000, I tried with the localizer at KLVK (I am now checking it on my G1000 PC Trainer)- ILVK and G1000 can't find such a thing.

CFII Debate - GPS in lieu of DME

They do, indirectly, because their enforce standards and you can often find out what these standards by requesting clarification before your scheduled exam. The only "mandatory" thing about them per my reading is that you are not supposed to commence descent before you reach such VDP, all...

CFII Debate - GPS in lieu of DME

Both. Let me chime in since I know under what circumstances the original question arose (Keith happens to be my CFII). We fly G1000 equipped SR20. I never saw any VDPs displayed in G1000, regardless if published or not. I have no idea why G1000 doesn't display published VDPs but this happens to...

Roy Halladay's Icon A5 down off of Tampa Coast

Both were "celebrities" but John Denver at least wasn't doing and "show off" maneuvering close to ground, that's not the reason why he crashed.
