    Aircraft Property Tax - Califronia

I used an escrow company when I purchased my plane. I forwarded a copy of my escrow paperwork as evidence of the value - and that is what they ended up valuing my plane at.

New Pilot First Plane 90's Bonanza F33A

Beech 33s are great planes. Schmoo is right, don't limit yourself to the 1990s. If your budget for the initial purchase allows, an older A36 is even nicer. 33s and 36s cost the same to operate with the exception that insurance on the 36s can run a little higher because it's a 6 seat...

    Autopilot comparison chart

Wow - sorry, but I think I might have jumped the gun regarding STEC-3100 for an Archer. That's a PA-28 right? According to this post on BeechTalk - STEC hasn't approved the 3100 for the PA-28. They are saying that they haven't had the level of interest needed to start the approval process...

    Autopilot comparison chart

Does the archer already have an STEC system? If so, it's probably worth getting a quote for the STEC 3100. STEC has a program that reuses your existing servos - they even recondition them and warranty them as part of your new autopilot install. The cost ends up being less than the GFC500...

New guy here planning the purchase of my first airplane

If you were on the West coast, I'd offer to take you up in my Bonanza A36. I think you'll find that the perfect choice would be an early A36 with a modern panel, IO-550 and air conditioning. Plenty of useful load, a little bit narrower than a PA32, but significantly faster and definitely a...

Looking for a shop to work on my RV in SoCal

Yes, welcome to Fullerton! I'm in the same row as you! I'm in the row of hangars that lead to/away from the Magnolia gate. I'm in the farthest north hangar on the East side of the row -opposite the wash rack. If you ever see the gates open, I'll be in there with my Bonanza. Stop and say...

Taking my Mentor (Dad) For a Flight Today

Here's to you and your dad. I'm glad you were able to share so much together. My dad taught me to fly and I'm fortunate that he's still around to fly with me. Although I value every single chance I get to fly with him, this thread reminds me to do better. Thanks for sharing.

What Plane Should I Look For?

What airport are you flying out of in SoCal? If you're close to Fullerton and want to see what a Beech A36 would be like, send me a PM. I'll be happy to show you it to you and your spouse.

    Robot vacuums...............thinking of buying one...

Neato is much better than Roomba in our experience. Cheaper too. If you have a Bed Bath and Beyond near you, look online for their 20% off coupon. You can use it on a Neato, but not on a Roomba.

    FF and No Hand-off

I don't think SoCal would intentionally just let you fly away and not hand you off to the next controller, but yeah, this stuff can happen. In my experience it's more of a case where I fly into a region that has bad radio reception and the result is a missed handoff. What I normally do is just...

What’s the best recipe for igloo A/C units

I use a B-Kool in my Bonanza. It really takes the edge off the heat and works best for the two people the cold air vent is closest to. I think your Traveler is a bit less cabin area, so the benefit should be even greater. You are correct that it basically converts the hot air to melted...

How did you decide how much plane to afford?

For me, here's kind of how my decision process went... I don't fly for a living. It's all for fun and convenience so that means I wanted to pay cash. Didn't make sense to take on a loan for something like this. From there, it wasn't hard to figure out the line between "wow, that's some cash"...
