If you have a carburetor you probably need to have it rebuilt/replaced. Mine was like that for years and the only way to get a clean shutdown was to run it up and then pull the mixture. I finally spent the $1,600 and put in a new carb and the problem went away. Also fixed my intermittent fuel...
I always do a mag check just before shutdown because it lets me know if there are fouled plugs. I’d much rather know of an issue when I have time to fix it rather than in the runup area when I want to go somewhere. That very issue happened to the my Cherokee just this week. The guys flying it...
I met one of the pilots today while he was waiting for the fog to burn off in the practice area. Seems like a normal guy. FYI. Not ehe EXPERIMENTAL text on the side of the plane. If anyone is interested, Paulo Iscold, the designer, is going to give a presentation about the project to our EAA...
Wait so we can turn certificated aircraft into experimentals now?
Paulo has been working on this in the hangar next to mine for months now. There was a big EXPERIMENTAL label across the side of the plane before they put the logos on. I watched him lift it up with a forklift to test the brake...
To answer a question you didn’t ask, you can see the FLY charts (the ones on the back of the paper TACs) if you go to the FAA Drive in Documents and add the ones you use.
Mode S transponders are required to transmit a 24-bit ICAO code that is calculated from your tail number. Mine displays the tail number by pushing the function key and I suspect most newer ones do—where newer is less than 20 years old.
The parachute guy closed up shop so you don’t have to worry about that anymore. The nearest parachute jumping is at Lompoc.
I’ve been in there lots of times in my Cherokee, C210, and an Arrow. If you know how to land on the centerline and how to do a short field takeoff it’s not all that challenging.
Option 1 will prevent trackers that marketing firms put into emails. If you don’t want them to know that you opened the mail, select that option. If you don’t care that marketers know that you’ve opened their email, choose Option 2.
If you value privacy this option is better than the old one...
It’s not an endorsement, it’s a course. They say it takes 16 hours, but that’s the minimum. Some of the modules are boring/not relevant and take 15 minutes so you just have to keep the window open until you get the right amount of time to take the quiz. Others are interesting and have good...
Fun fact. In order to actually start teaching someone you need to have a CFI give you an endorsement or complete a CFI currency program. I just did Sporty’s because it’s free for both ground and flight instructors. Some of it is also interesting.
I got mine a few years ago and a DPE could do it but none in my area were authorized to. Getting the FSDO to do it was fairly easy, I just made an appointment, showed up with my test results, IACRA login, and ID. Took about 15 minutes.
Yes. You should get the instrument at the same time and take the instrument ground test; they cover much the same info and that way you only need to study once. Once you pass the tests you need to visit a FSDO to get the certificate. I’ve made a little money from it and if you plan to be a CFI...
