    Royal Wedding RAF Flyover

I recorded the whole thing (6hrs) for the Redhead. I have made the first cut (commercial removal) and was left with 5hrs of video. Within that is the flyby as shown on ABC. I will look for it this afternoon or tomorrow AM and let you know if it is worth pulling out.

    Mid-runway departure?

I am based out of, and learned to fly at a 2975' X 40' strip. I have done many, many, many T&Gs at that strip. Most recently last month. The point remains that runway behind you is worthless. An aborted takeoff from near flying speed eats up nearly all of that 3000' (I've done it twice in 10...

    Mid-runway departure?

I won't ask for one under any circumstances that I can currently conceive of. When offered one, my response is "how much useable runway will I have?". Less than 4000' and I will probably say "no.". (I also only need about 1500' for a normal takeoff.) Runway behind you is as useless as fuel in...

    words to describe airmanship

First, never let the pax see you sweat. Handle everything as if that was what you expected. (If you are ahead of the airplane, you were expecting it, were'nt you?) Second, accomplish all manouvers so that they look automatic. That the airplane went where it needed to be without any work on...

    Hot Spot Overkill?

I don't fly out of ADS regularly, but I understand the problem. Because of the high volume of traffic and the mix of aircraft, intersection takeoffs are used extensively to efficiently sequence traffic.

GA Airplane question: Good All-around airplane

Take another look at the Sierra. Most of the negative comments are OWTs by people who have never flown the Bech Aero Club planes. The entire line is comfortable, stable, sturdy and reliable. The type club (BAC) is a tremendous asset and knowledge base.

    Get-There-Itis

Analogy re personal minimums and GTI: You won't drive to the restuarant for dinner in a heavy rain, but you will drive to work. You won't drive to work in snow and ice, but you will drive to the hospital with your sick child. Both Personal Minimums and GTI are subjective. This is why you...

    Takeoff Trim

The reason for the 2 marks being so close together is that trim really sets a speed at which the plane is aerodynamically in balance. IOW, left to its own devices (hands off), it will nose up or down on its own to maintain that speed. You can verify this by getting trimmed out at cruise and then...

    Chicago wants a shuttle

It ought to be a sure thing. My rationale for giving first dibs the 3 I named: Smithsonian - Should be obvious. Wright Pat - has the most complete collection in the world. Everything that the USAF ever owned or looked at. Johnson - Has one of every man rated vehicle NASA ever used.

    Chicago wants a shuttle

Considering the limited number available (4 I think), there isn't much leeway. one to the Smithsonian. one to the AirForce Museum at Wright Pat. one to the display area in Houston. The rest of you fight over what is left.

Southwest has a great sense of humor!

Yeah, they have always had a sense of humor. Herb Kelleher arm wrestling the president of a FL maint company over the use of a slogan. Some of the passenger briefing videos. And the Fee Court commercials running now. "Does his momma know what he's doing?"

    Charleston SC info

From these comments, it still looks like CHS is our best bet. Our leg in will be 265nm on Sunday, so If we leave KEUF with 50 gallons, we will only have to buy ~20 gallons of the high priced stuff for our leg out on Wed.

    floaty landings

Not necessarily so. You need to work in light winds with small gust factors until the sight picture is "burned" into your mind and muscle memory. Then when wind soes something weird to that picture, tour reaction is simply to correct the picture. Edit: Note that I fly a Beech A23. The breed...

At 50, should I become a new pilot?

Youngster! I took my introductory lesson as a 58th birthday present in 1999. I now am approaching 900 hours and hav landed in 27 different states and 200 different airports. Read the journal for more details on how to have fun after 60.

    Flying Wild Alaska

My take: He was on approach when the FL350 was heard. The cleared to indicated an outbound clearance, so was probably for the an aircraft departing as he arrived.
