Selling a plane with a partnership and maintenance fund

Jose, I don't think Ron was saying lawyers are "screwing" anyone...but lawyers do deserve to be paid lawyer's fees if "hired" by a partner or partners. He seems to be saying that partners can save that money if they draft well written, tight Partnership Agreements right out of the gate...

Selling a plane with a partnership and maintenance fund

The answer is, it depends. It depends on how each partner bought into the partnership. If a partner bought into a 1/4 share of a partnership based on the 1/4 share value the airplane PLUS a 1/4 share of the value of the engine fund (eg. plane worth 20k with 1800 hours on the engine and...

    CO / Carbon monoxide detectors

I use both the Kiddie Nighthawk with digital display and the Quantum Eye. They both work well. I have gotten CO in my Cardinal RG several times. Not from a mechanical failure, but it happens in this make and model if you perform 5+ take-offs and landings back to back. You can't depend...

PP Knowledge Test and the Supplement

Follow Pilots and Pilots-to-be, It's been a while since I've had to take an FAA knowledge test, but I always remember being handed a supplement book and certain pages had depictions of sectional charts to answer various questions. I believe when I took these tests (12 years ago) they were to...

    Garmin Set OBS and Hold

99 times out of 100, the GPS is correct. At least now you know something is wrong and needs to be checked out before you make a mistake...a mistake that could be only embarrassing if you're lucky or deadly if it's not you day. Who would care if the GPS isn't IFR certified if it catches an...

    Garmin Set OBS and Hold

I am a CFII too. I know that, and THAT is why sooo many students struggle in visualizing holds while they are flying and they struggle to enter the hold properly. Even pilots with over a 1000 hours, who only fly IFR occasionally, have a difficult time wrapping their heads around hold...

(Attached) GDL39 (3d) w/ Attitude AHRS vs Steam Gauge

Good point, but a better one might be, why don't they offer the six pack and SVT as display options? The whole idea of the AHRS in the GDL39 is so it can be used in an emergency. I don't think during an emergency it would be a good idea to present a distressed pilot with a display they're...

    Garmin Set OBS and Hold

Maybe what I'm saying is, "SET OBS AND HOLD" should be changed to "SET RADIAL AND HOLD" or simply "SET DESIRED RADIAL". That would be more intuitive.

    Garmin Set OBS and Hold

Yes, because you're flying "on" the 360 degree radial to the station with a 180 degree heading, and IF I was doing this with a VOR receiver that is what I'd have to do to set it up. BUT, I am flying a GPS and I'm trying to speak "GPS". It appears the programmers want me to speak to the GPS in...

(Attached) GDL39 (3d) w/ Attitude AHRS vs Steam Gauge

You have all the great toys: an airplane, the 796, an iPad, Garmin's Pilot App, the GDL39 3D and Garmin's new camera. How does the ADS-B WX and traffic work on both the 796 and iPad? Shame Garmin didn't allow the AHRS to work with the 796. Maybe it will on a future software update.

    Garmin Set OBS and Hold

Flyers, I have a Garmin 796. Let's say I'm given a clearance to, "Hold North at ABC on the 360 degree radial..." I enter Direct to ABC and press Menu > Set OBS and Hold. Next I enter 360 in the OBS field. Then what I'm presented with confuses me. The pink line emanating out of ABC...

    Oxymoron in the Hamptons

Flyers, I found a "contradiction" on my sectional today. Get out your iPads and look at Long Islands KHTO (East Hampton). Can you pick out the oxymoron? spoiler below...look at your current sectional first then read on... Notice KHTO is the primary (and only) airport...

I fix I'd like to see on the JPI EDM800

You are correct. But you should understand that what you are describing is called a "workaround". A workaround is a "long-way-around" detour to navigate an ill-conceived algorithm and you utilize it while you await a more efficient solution. An Algorithm that might work could look like...

I fix I'd like to see on the JPI EDM800

Yes...you are correct. The buttonology you state above would work IF you knew how much the EDM had calculated was on board. The problem is that I don't know how much fuel to add or subtract since the unit did not tell how much fuel it "thinks I have". Try this analogy: Your accountant...

I fix I'd like to see on the JPI EDM800

I have an EDM800 with the fuel computer option. I think there is a fix to the firmware that is sorely needed. Below is an email I sent to JPI. I wonder if others who own one of these units have a similar frustration. Let me know. <snip> To the EDM engineers and / or firmware...

What is your CFI's weather philosophy for lessons?

Don't forget to avoid Thunderstorms too. Might not be something to worry about currently, but they're just around the corner. This also depends on where you live and fly. Another is ceiling and visibility. Even in the IFR system, ceiling and visibility can be below minimums.
