    Arrival Plates purpose

Putting it as simple as possible, an arrival chart puts all the jets and turboprops through a 'gate' or fix and then they all fly a published route afterwards so ATC can easily space them out for the main airport or one of it's satellite airports. Jets at 30,000' to 40,000' need about 75 to 100...

    Huh?

That was required in places like TEB after 911, and since we didn't have props we had to have a throttle lock with chain.

    Taildraggers Are Cool!

Cool, glad you had fun. Taildraggers open up a whole new batch of fun planes to fly. Just a bit of friendly advice, try cropping 50% of the empty sky and about 60% of the plain pavement out of the above photo, I think it would make it much better. Most times I like to fill the screen with the...

    Private plane

This used to happen to a friend of mine on a regular basis when he had the charter companies phones transferred to his home after hours. The worst were the drunks after midnight wanting to go to Vegas. I think he used to tell them something like $10,000 for the flight. They weren't serious about...

ASES, Is it worth the time and trouble. How many have & don't use?

Not everything can be measured in dollars or need. I got my rating years ago in a Cessna 180 on Aqua floats. I never intended to buy or rent a float plane, I have other priorities and you only have so much time and money to spend in life. They are a ton of fun, combining flying and water, and I...

    'Wrong Way' Corrigan

He also signed the back of this spinner with all the other workers from some obscure plane, 10 down on the left.

Is EAA worth it, if I'm not interested in experimental.

EAA comprises a lot of different types of planes, from warbirds, homebuilts, ultralights, to antique and classics. It doesn't matter what you fly, the main thing is flying for fun and enjoyment. I thought about building a homebuilt years ago but saw that wasn't going to happen, so I'm working on...

SU Carbs - ever had them?

Yeah, if you want a modern MGB with all the reliability and none of the regular maintenance more like your Honda, get a Miata. Thank you, my MGB is an early '74, the last year of the chrome bumpers. It was semi-restored some 30 years ago and repainted this green with a new tan interior by one...

SU Carbs - ever had them?

My current MG to date. SU carbs are simple in operation and with only a couple of moving parts, once set they stay set. The SU-HS4's are prone to shaft wear, not the later HIF's as much. My brother still has a manifold and triple SU carb setup from his E Type he had years ago. Most complaints...

The Cubs 2 OSH Story: 75 Years in the Making

Nice video, wish I was there in my Aeronca.

Issued wake turbulence warning while on long final for departing a/c

It's not just for the wake from the wing, think about all that thrust of the engines creating turbulence too.

    Building a hangar

Whatever you do, don't build one with a north facing door in Minnesota.

"Restricted to Cat I and II aircraft only"? - Charted visual approach

We did that visual approach last year in the sim. Very interesting to see it and then overfly Ford Island and have rising terrain on the left.

    FNG

Welcome to this goofy place. I would check out fuel and hangar prices at ANE and CFE, I can't help you there as I haven't bought fuel in a while. As someone else said, Buffalo might a be a good option for you, good luck.

(TWM) Two Harbors, MN - North-Up & Marriage

Very nice photos. I was just wishing I could spend more time on the North Shore. I look at the FB page of 'North Shore Tribe' just to look at the beautiful photos of one of the best areas of Minnesota. If you have more time on another trip up there, stop in at the old train depot in town. They...

Aztec - Twin Engine Training - Question from a Newbie

I found this in the Aztec C manual in less than 5 minutes on the web. 'Pilots of this airplane should remain reasonably proficient in single engine flight. In many cases, "simulated" single engine operation (zero thrust condition, approximately 10 inches of manifold pressure and 2200 RPM) will...

    Hidden Damage

Here's an example of some of the repairs I found on my Champ. It's a repair of a cracked rib near the front spar opening, only one out of three rivets is really driven. I could do better riveting if I closed my eyes and threw a hammer at it. That's what you can find on 70 year old planes that...

    Traveling for work?

If I want to be home after a days work then I have to use the airlines. Same with going back to work when I have to travel half way across the country. I fly from Minnesota to FL and AZ frequently, and driving is not a practical option for getting home. Some of us don't have choices.
