    G5 as a turn coordinator

That's not really relevant to the question. The G5 does have a turn coordinator, but that doesn't make it approved as a replacement for the one already installed.

Is it 5G or is it Memorex?

Pretty good chance 5G c-band (3.7 Ghz to 3.98 Ghz) didn't have a damn thing to do with GPS reception (1575 Mhz and 1227 Mhz)

Part 2 - Modern Avionics and the Instrument Pilot - Part 2 Intercepting Final and the Missed

One piece of feedback. The "Command line" you keep referring to is called the AFCS Status Box according to Garmin, for G3X. For the rest of the avionics world, it's generally called the Flight Mode Annunciator (FMA). This seems to be the FAA's recommended naming based on AC 25.1329-12. For a...

    Dual G5 question…

Right now it's availability. Just went through this with my Bonanza. G5's are available this week, GI 275 are available in 6 months. Since my AI died, I'd rather be up and flying, rather than putting in a temp fix.

    Secure file delete utilties

I've used Bitraser as a gov approved software tool before. It meets DoD 5220.22 and some other big NSA standards I can't recall immediately. Good enough for un-class USAF, probably good enough here too. Licenses aren't free, but probably not too bad if he's serious about destroying data.

    CFI Rates - Independent

Totally varies. I paid $25/hr for a CFII for instrument (felt bad, that was way to cheap). Paid $20/hr for a tailwheel instructor because he just liked doing it. On the other side, I paid a young CFI $75/hr to teach me how to move the gear lever for an endorsement.

    Altitude call outs on approach

The G5 and GFC 500 do not do that. You can get callouts from the GTN though, and presumably other GPS boxes with TAWS.

The band in question is a new allocation that hasn't gone live yet.

    GFC500 Checklist?

Are the various checklists/procedures in the flight manual supplement not enough? That's all I've ever seen on a rental checklist with GFC 500 or similar

Odd decision leads to plane crash in Texas

That would make sense actually. Just rotate the sensor in the camera and you'd be good to go. Of course, those of us that rotate the phone correctly today would then end up with the problematic recordings. Maybe one day we'll go to square sensors so software can control everything.

Odd decision leads to plane crash in Texas

Can't add pixels that aren't there. The sensor itself usually matches (roughly) what you're seeing in a portrait recording. So to convert it to landscape, you'd have to throw away the top/bottom, and reduce your overall quality/pixel count

connectivity for foreflight on an ipad

His statement is accurate. An iPad without the cellular equipment WILL NOT get GPS position without an external GPS of some sort (Stratus, Stratux, Panel mount, etc). It's just a fact, Wi-fi only iPad's do NOT have a GPS antenna/chip. Active service, however, has zero impact.

The Ted Race Team: Because Racecar

Unfortunately it's unlikely to work for the track night events. I've run events in a couple different regions and they all seem to stick pretty firmly to the rule that track nights are for street legal cars only. It'd be hard to sneak this one past them on that rule.

Garmin GTX 330ES not transmitting ADSB?

If you have set your ownship ID in Stratux or Foreflight, it's not going to show it to you.

So, I got my GI-275s in and my plane FINALLY back.

The GPS 175 includes wireless connectivity without any additional equipment. No flight stream or GI 275 required

3D Printed Headset Control Holders at OSH - Who was selling?

Yeah you seem to be. He's asking for a 3d printed mount, not the actual control box. OP, seems you can get them on eBay. https://www.ebay.com/str/nirvanaaviation

Garmin database filtering out private airports

I'm genuinely curious, do you have an example of one you land at that would be filtered out by those rules?

[NA] Health Insurance. US vs. Elsewhere

Similar to Ted's story, I've had various insurance through various aerospace employers. Some have been great, others just decent. My most recent experience was this spring where my out of pocket cost was $400, and the hospital bill ended up just short of $200k ($199,989). At that time my...
