    Fuel prices on the rise

If you only have to fill up your gas tank four or five times a year you tend to forget exactly how much it costs.

    Finding the right Instructor

I suggest you book a discovery flight in a 172 and see what it's actually like. If you're planning on flying a 172, do you only plan to make people sit in the back unless they're small? I think you'd be surprised by the flexibility people have to squish and the amount of overlap you can get if...

I just made the classic British mistake.

I little bit, but it's not like I knew any Bluegrass songs, and the banjo book I had didn't include anything by Duran Duran.

I just made the classic British mistake.

Oh My. Be still, my beating heart. I grew up in the UK. When I was 18 my Grandmother bought me and my twin brother a little yellow MG Midget. Unfortunately, neither of us had a driving license, any money, or anywhere to store the thing. Under considerable pressure from my Mother who was...

    Newest LSA update proposals

You say that, but here's the rule: https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2017/02/03/2017-02451/reducing-regulation-and-controlling-regulatory-costs - it's only a couple of pages long. It doesn't sound like a mischaracterization to me.

    Favorite conspiracy theories

I find it weird that they call the 'Amelia Earhart ditched near Gardner Island' a conspiracy theory. Who exactly is conspiring here? I thought it was just a reasonable hypothesis of what happened to her and Noonan. It's funny because there absolutely are Amelia Earhart conspiracy theories, like...

    Buying a Plane......Which One?

Before even considering purchasing a plane, look very carefully at whether you would pass a class 3 medical. If there's some reason you might not, you might want to stick with a Sport Pilot certificate. You won't be able to go instrument rated or fly at night, but you will be able to use your...

    Flying Magazine article

The odds are actually pretty similar, when averaged across the population: Odds of being hit by lightning per year of living in the USA - 1 in 500,000 Odds of being unarmed and yet killed by a cop per traffic stop - 1 in 400,000 The actual personal odds will vary considerably and depend upon...

    UPS Lost my Engine!

Certainly a GPS tracker would be better, but Airtags / Tiles are more easily available, and they can be useful for this kind of thing. Someone I know put them on his luggage when travelling, and when the airline misplaced his luggage, he was able to tell them where to look for it. I guess it...

    UPS Lost my Engine!

I think nowadays if I was to ship something valuable I would stick a Tile tag or an Apple Airtag on it, which would at least allow you to give the shipping company a hint as to where the package is - or at least - where it has been.

    Diamond Aircraft eDA40 All-Electric Aircraft

I don't think they ever will, unless some truly wild new tech turns up. However that doesn't mean that people won't get forced to go electric. All new cars sold in Germany from 2030 onwards have to be electric - GA aviation will hold on longer than cars do, but how much longer?

    Diamond Aircraft eDA40 All-Electric Aircraft

Sorry, what I meant my that is that we as battery consumers will be able to do better than use a Lithium Ion batteries, not that The World In General is Not Doing Enough Battery Research. I'm sure there are vast amounts of research going in to better batteries, which is one of the reasons I'm...

    Diamond Aircraft eDA40 All-Electric Aircraft

No, and there won't be - but we can certainly do better than we are doing right now, but it requires different battery chemistry. NiCad batteries had an energy density of around 50-60 Wh/kg, and Lithium Ion batteries in Teslas are about a five-fold improvement on them. One of the current...

    Diamond Aircraft eDA40 All-Electric Aircraft

The 'as battery technology evolves' bit is a shame. I'm curious what battery energy density they're using for that calculation. The people they use for their batteries currently supply a 205Wh/kg battery, and if they're doing the calculation off for instance Tesla Model 3 battery density, which...

Okay, call me sexist, rascist, homophobe, xenophobe........

It boggles the mind to think that there are adults in the day and age that can't quite understand that you might not want to explicitly include gender in a job title. Really? You can memorize every ****ing color of a flashing light at an airport but can't handle the reclassification of...

    Flying overweight

How does it only have roughly 850lbs of useful load? The Internet seems to think M20Ks have something like 1100lbs of useful load; I can understand losing some useful load to the extended tanks themselved, as well as air conditioning, deicing, or something like that, but 250lbs? What's been...

Flying into GA airport at Oakland questions

Hayward is only six miles from Oakland, so unless you're literally going to walk to the facility, Hayward would probably be as good.
