    Comfortable Ownership?

Isn't "budget" and "plane ownership" in the same sentence sort of an oxymoron? I could have swore that's what the POA consortium told me a year ago when I was considering buying a plane :D. But I ignored all the advice and bought one anyway... have had a Cherokee Six since November of last...

    Apple to Android question

As Mark mentioned, if you're use to the extras Foreflight gives you, Avare will disappoint (that's what I have on my Samsung phone). I am an Android phone user, but in the plane it's an iPad and Forelight. I just have Avare on my android but honestly never really use it. You might consider...

LOL, back to your regular scheduled program...

    Landed on closed runway

Not exactly... I looked at the 6 seaters Cessna had and either they were retract (didn't meet my requiremes), the back 2 seats only fit kids (again, didn't meet requirements), or were more expensive... again a fail.

    Landed on closed runway

Every time I've tried to fit 5 or 6 adults in a 182, the back seat passengers always complain when I tell them to "double buckle". Less complaints in my low wing :D. In all seriousness, I do like high wings, unfortunately nothing quite got the job done like a Six (leg room, should room, cargo...

    Landed on closed runway

I fly a Cherokee Six. 4 tanks, mains are 25g each (18 to the tabs), tips are 17g each. I have 3 things I do for fuel management (aside from fuel planning during preflight). 1) I switch between the 4 tanks every 30 minutes. My iPad is bluetooth'd into my headset and I have the timer set for...

    Landed on closed runway

I may be doing this wrong, and admittedly am VERY open to criticism and suggestions as I'm on the lower side of pilot time. I'm typically not actively looking for fuel when my tanks (or just because my tanks) reach 1/2 (Cherokee Six w/4 tanks, 84g total, burn at 12-13gph). My general approach...

@Tools summed it up pretty well above. What was the issue?

    182 Transition

I went from a ton of time in a 172 training and getting my PPL... to a PA28 getting checked out and that took about 3-4hrs to feel comfortable (enough). Then prior to purchasing a PA-32-300 (Six), I did some transition training from the PA28 to it's larger variant, the PA32, and got my high...

    Finally restarted my flying lessons.

God bless your wife Tammy, what a trooper and you too! Great job on your continued determination with your flight training, it has been fun (the flying part) to read. As with most, radios can be a challenge to become comfortable with. I remember my first solo trip to a Class D like it was...

    Professional Instrument Courses (PIC)

Andy, I'm not sure if you have access to the magazine "Piper Flyer" or not, but in the September 2022 print, there's an full (very detailed) article (and review) of the GATTS 7-day Instrument Rating Course. GATTS is similar to PIC except you go to them instead of them (PIC) coming to you...

    Professional Instrument Courses (PIC)

Training fatigue happens with a lot of training (and can with just regular flying), not just instrument. As you are fully aware, any time there's task saturation especially unexpected or new tasks, the brain can tend to lock up (fatigue). We've all been there, I know I have. We get beyond...

    Professional Instrument Courses (PIC)

I'd agree with most of this but I don't think the fatiguing part is really much of an issue unless you have some other underlying health/sleep related concerns. I did the PIC in March and had a great instructor and it was broken up enough where we had ground school each day and flying each day...

    Professional Instrument Courses (PIC)

I used PIC this past March. Did their 10-day IFR Course. It was great, well worth it. They will also customize it to something shorter if someone just needs a "finish up" course. They will usually send a SIM to your house and will use that to initially practice approaches, holds, etc. You...

    Garmin aera vs ifly gps

I'm just thinking outloud here, but I don't think an EFB like Foreflight would be able to provide vertical guidance because it doesn't know the altitude you're flying at according to your altimeter (PA). I would think you'd have to focus on the panel GPS to get that result.

    I'm new here!

Welcome aboard Brian! I'm over on the other side of Florida (Space Coast). Past Roadracer as well. Good luck and have fun getting back to it.

    Engine run on

My IO-550 had an occasional dieseling issue upon shutdown early this year. It ended up being the mechanical fuel pump. Diaphragm was failing, it also eventually spewed fuel from the drain line attached to it. Mine only stumbled for a few seconds and then shut down. Replaced the fuel pump and...

    Garmin aera vs ifly gps

I have a panel mounted iPad (Mini 5). I like it for the following: 1) big picture weather (I'm zoomed out enough to show the next 1-2 hours), 2) a backup to my yoke mounted iPad, 3) it allows my right seat (usually better half) to see where we are and also look for ADS-B traffic 4) and allows...

Vy at high (for a NA piston) altitude

In the perfect world I might expect a little more given it's a retract. Mine is a fixed gear PA32 and I made a chart that shows Rate of Climb for any given PA with any Outside Air Temp. Based on his info provided, my Six should climb at ~600 fpm up around a PA of 12k w/that OAT and at...
