The Runway Cafe at KLBX south of Houston is back open

Quite a few showed up today. Last Sunday had around 40 planes for the 11-1 lunch period. I will be working at the hanger tomorrow so I will see if Mother’s Day impacts the crowd. My hanger is just south of C and my red truck will be out front. I have a scanner on to hear what’s going on and...

The Runway Cafe at KLBX south of Houston is back open

Pigpen I’ve been working on my plane for the last couple of weeks and have enjoyed watching you shoot approaches. Sure doesn’t take long for you to complete a cycle. If I see you this weekend I will take a break and try to find you at lunch. Gary

The Runway Cafe at KLBX south of Houston is back open

    go-around on Cessna150

I did a go around in a 150 with full flaps, close to gross, and 110 degrees. With full power it held altitude but didn’t go up much. Once I milked the first 10 degrees of flaps out it started up so I just continues to milk the flaps up as speed increased until I was back in a normal climb...

    Air-to-Air Bonanza E33

Great job as always Jack. I love the golden-hour effect on the colors. On another note I got around to reading the April Cessna Owners magazine with the Citation photos. We all see the beautiful external photos from your shoots but the interior shots of that Citation were fantastic as well...

$100 hamburger in COVID-19 times (video)

The Runway Cafe at KLBX is open for takeout on Saturdays. Last Saturday they had 58 planes on the ramp at one time including a P-51, a couple of T-6’s, a Beech 19, a Christian Eagle, and on and on. I’m repairing , repainting all the plastics on my interior for the annual so it was fun to see...

Which aircraft is suitable for my type of mission

My 74 Cardinal RG meets all the requirements except I can only have 120 lbs in the cargo area. I paid $67k for mine and for $150K you can get a full on tricked out version, probably even a turbo RG if you can find one. I flight plan 10 GPH and 165 MPH. We do at least one 1500-mile-one-way...

    Air-to-Air Piper Arrow

Well mine bought both my first plane, told me we needed to upgrade to a faster plane for longer trips, and then told me that it would be nice of I got my instrument rating to make it easier to take the long trips. She’s been spoiling me for 45 years. Gary

    I did fly today...

I didn’t fly but was at the airport working on my annual. A lot of people were flying and I was very impressed with how the mix of pilots / aircraft worked together. We had everything from Cessna Citation to a J-3 cub in the pattern together. They, a Cirrus, and a Barron all communicated...

    Wheel broke into half

Stevensun: A lot of the airplane owners at the airport I’m at spend time doing things with their planes on the weekends, I’ve had good luck finding the IA’s I work with by walking around the airport talking to the people I find doing things with their planes. I’ve also made good friends that...

    Annual timing

Living in Houston I try to get mine done in early spring before it gets to hot. I’m not always successful but that can move mine up a month or two or back to the 13 month cycle. Part of my decision on timing also depends on what I’m seeing during the oil changes every 25 hours. I check...

Rural airports? Should I become a Pilot?

I bought a 56 172 to get my PPL then flew it for 9 years with at least one trip of 1500 miles one way each year. I was commuting between Houston and Dallas at least a couple of times a month and it worked well for that. With no IFR rating, and the relatively slow speed, it was usable for long...

    Nearest ATC frequency?

The Garmin 430 has a ‘nearest’ page for that. It will show you frequencies that will enable you to contact whoever you need. The person you contact may have you change frequencies after the initial contact but it gets the process started. I’m guessing other GPS units have something similar Gary

    Air-to-Air Cessna Citation

Jack The shots in the magazine did a good job of showing your skills. Textron my be interested in them for their advertising. I’m betting they don’t have any shots down low that compare to yours. gary
