Determine value (if any exists) for aviation items no longer needed

I was able to find some 496 sales on ebay but... I can't say I've ever seen an aircraft exhaust system listed there (and can't find any now). The real question/issue is that if the exhaust system would sell (or salvage, recycle, etc) for $100 we'll just keep it as a backup. If there's some...

    In ear headset question

You can (and should) replace the in-ear piece before demo-ing his headset. Once you switch those out (or have him do it, if you're really worried about touching his ear wax) you're pretty "clean" as far as borrowing the in-ears go. Edit: I've been flying exclusively with QT Halos for years and...

Determine value (if any exists) for aviation items no longer needed

Our club has recently gone through a few upgrades and I'm wondering if there's a good way to find out whether items we've removed have any value (and if so, what that value might be). How can I determine market value of items that don't sell very often (so it's hard to find comparables)...

    My grandfather passed

Sorry for your loss, Bryan. It's too bad that people have to go, but there should be some comfort for your family knowing that you were able to be there for your Papaw in his final moments.

Five T's and annoucements on CTAF.

Can you modify your approach briefing to include points you'd like to make position reports on CTAF? Do that planning at a non-critical (and less overloaded) time and you'll have time to determine where each spot is from the airport. Maybe even figure out how far the FAF is from the runway and...

Passed Private Pilot Checkride (ACS vs PTS)

Congratulations! Great write-up and it sounds like you did well on the oral portion. How did the flying go? Who will be your first passenger?

    Commercial Ratings Training Time???

I got my SE CPL in 3 days in a plane I'd never flown before. (With the wings in the wrong place, too!) ;-) Total cost of training and checkride was in the $3K range.

    Need Safety Pilot, Will Travel

Probably too far to make it worth coming to Wisconsin, but I'd happily fly safety pilot for anyone needing help. So, in case you find yourself in the area... let me know!

    Becoming a ground school instructor.

I figured if I didn't mention the BGI, someone would say my answer was incomplete... but I obviously agree that the best approach would be AGI and/or IGI. Also, to the OP, I took my Commercial, AGI and CFI tests all in the same day, since they're (essentially) the same question bank. I also...

    Becoming a ground school instructor.

Need to pass (at least) two written tests. One on the Fundamentals of Instruction (FOI) and then whichever ground instructor test(s) you plan to take. Options are Basic Ground Instructor (BGI), Advanced Ground Instructor (AGI) and Instrument Ground Instructor (IGI). (I skipped the BGI and did...

Suspected, but wasn't sure. So went with an informational answer, instead.

You're flying along in IMC and have a complete instrument failure. But...

If they're flying "straight and level" in relation to the ground, you're going to "scoop" them with the plane, right? They fly straight in space, but the plane is moving so they'll effectively fall towards the floor. (I think.) Once on the floor, they'll continue to get "scooped" providing them...

You're flying along in IMC and have a complete instrument failure. But...

In a 60 degree level, coordinated turn you'd be pulling 2Gs. That would make the butterflies feel twice their weight. Unless those butterflies (insects) have been doing butterflies (workout) I'm guessing they'd have a hard time (butter)flying.

Deciding between QT Halo and Clarity Aloft Link

No fault on QT's part, but I did manage to break the wires on my Halos... twice now. Because I forget I'm wearing them (that's a positive) I'll occasionally try to get out with them on, realize my mistake and then take them off before completely exiting. But, the wire is long enough that it's...
