    I cant find a hangar.

Airplanes live outside all the time. Keep it waxed, make sure it is sealed against the weather (canopy cover?) and make sure all the drain holes are clear. The money you save on hangar expense will more than pay for any extra upkeep from leaving the aircraft outside... Other than corrosion...

    EAA life membership value?

The challenge is there may not be any staff writers. They (EAA) have staff and they have columnists. The staff edits and publishes the magazine. The columnists offer wisdom on their appointed topic every month. The writers of the focus articles are the Sparky Barnes, Budd Davisson's, and Ron...

Experience with McFarlane Cowl Saver baffle seal material

Gary, what is the handle attached to your crank flange? I've never seen anything like that.

    EAA life membership value?

How many professional writers want to do the work to collect a few dollars for writing for SA? It is a hobby at best. Look at the folks who write for those magazines. They are (mostly) hobbyists. They are high profile hobbyists because they write articles for SA or Kitplanes. That's their...

More oil == cooler engine temps?

In my world, the entire engine (less cylinders) is at 230F (an arbitrary number for point of discussion) because of the heat conductivity of aluminum. It is stabilized. Steady state. The amount of heat the crankcase and sump can reject is determined by that 230F, the ability of aluminum to...

    EAA life membership value?

The point is.. You write the article. THEY are going to write articles about the airplanes that appear at Oshkosh. That's what THEY do because you and me don't submit articles. They want us to submit articles. But we don't. So they write articles about what falls into their collective laps...

More oil == cooler engine temps?

Here's the way I see it. The crankcase, sump, and oil cooler are where the engine rejects any heat that isn't dissipated by the cylinder fins. Since all of those things are aluminum, they all have tremendous heat conduction and rejection capabilities, so the entire assembly has roughly the same...

shave cream - who is using what

Same here. Shaving in the shower was a revelation to me after my formative shaving years trying to use either an electric razor (awful) or using the standard shaving cream over the sink. Shaving in the shower is far superior. Oh, and I use throwaway double blade razors with a lubricating strip.

    EAA life membership value?

The magazine has lost a ton of talent and grass root focus since (say) 2000ish. That's been a source of tremendous frustration for a lot of people. But, if you did restore a 1965 Bonanza, I bet SA or Vintage would love to publish an article on it. Again, it comes down to what people submit...

    Out-Swinging Exterior Doors

It has been pointed out that the hinges are a point of vulnerability on outswing doors. But most burglars won't have a set of tools or even a screwdriver to push the pins out of a hinge, so that's not a major concern for me. The vulnerability of inswing doors is being kicked in, which is pretty...

More oil == cooler engine temps?

You are correct. As long as the sump has some oil in it and the oil cooler is getting its fill, you're just in a heat exchange situation. More oil means it takes slightly longer for the engine to reach equilibrium temperature, but doesn't change the ability of the engine fins, oil cooler, sump...

    EAA life membership value?

What I'll tell you is that EAA is interested in what its members are interested in. Years ago, you had a lot more tinkerers and EAA/Sport Aviation had a lot more content that reflected the tinkerer population. Rotary engines? VW's? Small Block Chevy's? You bet. But nobody is submitting those...

RV Crash due to belted controls

Whether this story is true or not, this exact thing happened at a fly-in 25 or so years ago. Maybe the Golden West fly-in. The deceased pilot's family sued everyone in sight including the fly-in organizers and the EAA which was a co-sponsor of the fly-in. About that time, EAA stopped being a...

    EAA life membership value?

It is, but some of the stuff they offer to lifetime members is just a throw-away... a complete waste of money (IMO). What in the world am I gonna do with a Jacket or a wall plaque? That's $50 or $100 of money just thrown away, IMO. Cut the price by $100 and do away with that stuff, since it...

    EAA life membership value?

For those of you who have kids with any aviation interest why not buy the lifetime membership in their name? They can take you to the "oasis" or whatever it is called and you can read their editions of the magazine....

    Out-Swinging Exterior Doors

Outward opening means you don't need a swing radius inside your home. That's a win. Says he who suffers from an inward swinging double door in his basement workshop.

    Is AvWeb Done?

It can be very hard to discriminate. But I trust the discerning poster to figure it out. When we start arguing about green policy or tax policy or red = bad, blue = good, or using code words to work our political biases into the discussion, that's a problem. When was the last time anyone had a...

    Is AvWeb Done?

Yep. Get rid of everything (on topic specific forums - e.g. this one) that pushes into politics. Nothing good ever comes out of those discussions.

    Senator (OK) Jim Inhofe

It was a 2 paragraph article. The first discussed his contributions to GA. The second one discussed <some of> his mistakes. From my perspective, it was fair. I appreciate his contributions, but am of the belief that he used his position to avoid consequences the rest of us would have faced.
