    Any Career CFI's?

There are plenty of experienced CFIs , but they don't do primary training in a raggedy 172. They have specialized on something like the Bonanza proficiency training, cirrus instructing or type certificate training. Given the competition from the time builders it's hard to make a decent living...

Flight school bankruptcy - Manassas, VA

Or the strength of salesmanship and emotion. I used to be based at KHEF a few hangars down from that school. They were big on selling block time. At one point one of their former students offered me to sell you $18,000 worth of helicopter lessons for $10,000 as he was unable to get a medical. I...

[NA] Where to buy a winter home?

I don't see winter sports on your list of 'wants'. With everything else on your list you are pretty much down to the desert southwest.

Flight school bankruptcy - Manassas, VA

Really sad story about the woman in the aopa story. She was clearly a 'mark'. They not only talked her out of 50k for a commercial/CFI package but also another 50k 'loan to the flight school. You would think that someone with a MBA has the financial literacy to spot that kind of risk, but oh...

Three brothers with no PPL considering purchasing a plane

That would be a common setup. You form a LLC or corp and the entity owns the aircraft. Depending on the state you are in this can have positive or adverse tax implications as some localities tax business property different from personal property. The alternative is for all three of you signing...

    Crowdstrike

In addition to a old fashioned VHF pager, my local fire dept dispatches us using notification App which provides a written representation of the dispatch along with mapping and units due. This is backed up by a SMS with the written info. A few months ago the App developer announced that they...

Alec Baldwin shoots and kills cinematographer.

This was a low budget production. They didn't even pay the armorer to work through all the production days when firearms were being used. Some of the days she was paid as a prop assistant.

    Tesla Pickup Unveil

Finally saw one. Flat green wrap. I guess they hadn't applied the stencil for the WM logo yet.

shave cream - who is using what

Red can Gillette. Double edge safety razor with Feather blades. Tried to get all fancy by using 'shave butter' and one of those brush things. Didn't do anything better than the red can. Don't need to shave much these days. Grew a beard, only have to shave around the edges.

    Willys CJ3A firetruck

To maintain index A, all you need is one truck with 500lb of a sodium based dry agent. Even for index B, if you have two vehicles one of them can be this type of 'self propelled fire extinguisher'. So 350 isn't that far off from what is still in use in things like rapid intervention vehicles.

    Supreme Court: Chevron Deference

It was a pointed, somewhat hyperbolical response to the hyperbolical claim that agencies won't be able to do 'anything' going forward. The decision changed an aspect of how they have to go about regulating and how explicit the legislators have to be when empowering an agency to write...

    Supreme Court: Chevron Deference

I think that's called a 'straw man argument'. Doing away with the 'chevron deference' doesn't eliminate the ability of agencies to issue regulations. It does away with the requirement of courts to defer to the agencies interpretation of the law. Never made sense. Judges are not experts on...

    Supreme Court: Chevron Deference

If with 'anything' you mean 'make up rules as they go and not be challenged about it', then yes they won't be able to do 'anything'. All they lose is the ability to say 'because we said so, that's why!'

This one is VERY hard to listen to...I'm guessing another "cognitive decline"...

Not a bad idea to have someone check on him. CO poisoning or hypoglycemia can make people sound completely incoherent.

    AME in Hampton Roads area

Anyone have a good AME in the Hampton Roads area of VA, ideally on the Peninsula. There is one listed in Newport News (Dr Torry), but that's all I could find so far.

Glider crash - Winter Haven, FL

Maybe not an engine failure but rather an inability to get the engine started. Earlier gliders with aux engines used Solo and Hirth 2-stroke engines which at times didn't want to start. This type uses a small Wankel engine and I have no knowledge on how reliably they fire up. Unless it popped...
