What do you want in an engine monitor?

Great points. I like redundancy, but I also like simplicity. To be honest, even if I go with a digital primary I still plan to keep the factory tach at the very least and if I remove any primary gauge it'll be the oil temp/pressure gauge.

What do you want in an engine monitor?

My friend has a G2 in his plane and loves it. I've looked at it once, briefly and while its not a large display, its fine for a 2 seat airplane. He thinks the G3 is too cluttered for its size though. All three options I discussed have fuel flow but the EI is the only one approved as primary and...

What do you want in an engine monitor?

I've searched the forum for "engine monitor" and even searched specific engine monitors but I'm curious: -If you were to purchase an engine monitor for a 60 year old plane with an O-235 in it, what features would you consider most important? -A friend on the field is trying hard to push me...

    Help me spend my money!

The 2 box system and overall price are what is pushing me away from the PAR200. My intercom is easy to use, but is only an intercom and not an audio panel. But it is older and if I get an all in one unit as there are only 2 seats it'll help clean things up in front of and behind the panel.

    Help me spend my money!

Thanks for all the feedback so far. To answer some of the questions. -The jury is still out on if I need to install a nav receiver, I've heard pros and cons to installing one. Most IFR pilots I talk to that have a GPS system tend to not use the nav receiver. If I go with a com only unit I've...

    Help me spend my money!

Looking for advice on future upgrades to our Piper Colt! Existing panel: Garmin GNX375, Aspen Pro PFD, KY197 Com radio, SPA-400 intercom. - Everything currently installed works as advertised. I'd like to possibly add an engine monitor and/or replace the com unit with an updated com unit or...

Gold Seal IFR course- anything else needed?

Update: I passed the written test with an 85 today! I only enrolled in the Gold Seal online course and studied in the online section. I did also save the IFR need to know file from Gold Seal but the bulk of studying was within the online program itself. After completing the course with a passing...

    E/AB final weight?

One of the first planes I considered purchasing was a dragonfly. Online searching showed that it should have had a useful load around 600-700 pounds. The one we looked at was built heavy and had a useful load closer to 300 pounds. Lots of extra fiberglass resin and other heavy items got added...

    E/AB final weight?

I know the performance numbers and finished weight listed on many of the kit planes are optimistic at best, but I'm curious if there is an average number this is off by? For example, the info for the Bede 4C shows an empty weight of 1250 lbs but I found one blog of a gentleman that built one and...

    Plane purchase 1st time

Definitely this! When I was searching for a plane I was blissfully unaware of how banks finance planes and assumed that because I could get a loan for a $90K vehicle at the drop of the pen I'd be able to get a similar loan for an airplane. That wasn't the case, I was turned down for airplane...

    Air-to-Air Piper Tri-Pacer

105 in a Tri Pacer? My Colt typically cruises at 100 mph at 2400 RPM with a smaller engine. I would imagine the TriPacers larger engine would get it moving a tad faster. Its only 6 inches longer if I'm not misataken.

Gold Seal IFR course- anything else needed?

Thanks, I already downloaded that one and have it in my binder to study. I've already enrolled and am slowly working through the first section of the training in an attempt to let it soak in instead of trying to power through and risk forgetting anything when it comes to test time.

Yep, already have the instrument flying handbook download as well as the FAR/AIM on my ipad.

Gold Seal IFR course- anything else needed?

Getting ready to start my instrument training and right now there is a 80% chance I'll be using the Gold Seal instrument online ground school. Other than purchasing the online course, what else is needed? Will I need to get additional books, tools, calculators, etc...? I've still got the E6B...

    Airports/Hangars near San Antonio, Tx?

SSF looks like it could be a good airport for sure. Busy airspace doesn't bother me. I'm just outside of LAX and depending on the route of flight I either get crushed with traffic or end up in no mans land.

    Airports/Hangars near San Antonio, Tx?

It is time for me to start thinking of my next set of military orders and I'm curious how difficult it is to get hangar space in the San Antonio, Tx area. It looks like there are quite a few airports and airparks surrounding KSAT but I know that an abundance of airports/airparks doesn't mean an...
