    Bakin' Bacon

We always cook our bacon on the grill, but in a sheet pan. It keeps the kitchen clean and smelling fresh. We also have a bacon press which helps cook the bacon evenly.

Okay, so what would a low-cost airplane look like?

Here's one: Aerotrek $130,000 base, your choice of trigear or taildragger. Looks like a pleasant little around-the-patch kind of airplane. If you wanted to get into aviation with a new airplane, you could probably get one of these with the few options you'd need and your light sport rating...

I thought that LSAs were built to an ASTM standard, not any FARs.

Road Bump in Buying a Plane - No Place to Put It

If you go back to the mid 20th century, there were many more privately owned public use airports than there are now. As real estate became more expensive, these airports closed and became office parks and housing developments, the revenue they generated wasn't enough to keep the land from being...

So, would a bipolar pilot be better off flying a biplane?

    What's For Dinner?

I used to make Steak au Poivre, but I can’t eat it anymore, I spend the next four hours sweating after consuming all that pepper. Sure is tasty, though. Making Chicken Marsala tomorrow, which is another classic recipe that’s gone out of fashion but is well worth making.

Gila Bend, AZ Plane Down - 1 dead, 1 injured

That is a BRS. I'd guess that the pilot was trying to land and lost control. To land a trike you fly it close to the ground and throttle back. If his ground track would put a significant side load on the landing gear the carriage could flip, or if he dragged a wingtip this would be the end result.

Gila Bend, AZ Plane Down - 1 dead, 1 injured

That's a light sport trike, uses a hang glider style wing and is steered with weight shift, two axis control only. They're usually bought complete as an SLSA, but I suppose you could take one into ELSA rules. They're definitely not something you'd want to fly in a lot of wind or turbulence.

NA: dog ownership + lawn care

When I take the dogs out, I carry a watering can. Diluting the urine keeps it from burning the grass.

Got a laugh in traffic this morning.

I try to avoid people that are behaving like that. This is the South, you never know if they might start shooting.

Which is harder to land? Tailwheel or Glider

I pulled out my logbook, I have six flights in Schweitzers 2-33 and 2-22. IIRC it was not difficult to land, learning to land the Grumman AA-1s i trained in was much more difficult. With the glider, you just fly along close to the ground until you touch down, then put on the brake. The trainers...

    What's For Dinner?

Made this for the first time last night: Chicken Marsala You don't need the tapioca flour, you could use cornstarch, or just not bother. You will have to go to the liquor store for a bottle of Marsala, it's not real common these days. There are lots of recipes for this, this one is on the...

Stairway to Heaven - Not the Song

In the Austrian Alps, there's a mountaineering device called the Stairway to Heaven, although a lot of people would consider it their worst nightmare. I've done a lot of risky stuff, but this is a hard nope, even if I were qualified to try it.
