What were YOU doing at 14 y/o?

Painting fences, picking up rocks, cutting the lawn, pulling a drag harrow around the riding ring, mucking out stalls, and earning enough money to buy a Honda CL175.

    Boat or Airplane

We have a 21 foot bowrider. It need an oil change (two engines) every 18 months, if you let the marina do it it's about $400. In the eight years we've had it, it's needed $170 in repairs. It's in dry stack storage, about $4400 per year.

    Boat or Airplane

I'm not sure how you can compare a 32 foot boat to a 4 or 6 seat light airplane, they have completely different mission profiles.

    DuPuis Family Cobra Build

I don't think so, the track's a lot wider and the rear suspension is a lot better. IIRC the '85 had a beam axle So, who was it who sold that old RX-7 to @Ted, which distracted him from finishing the Cobra?

    Selling Attitude

The thing that makes the market for certificated aircraft different than most other markets is that the production of new piston airplanes is minuscule. What do we say here when someone asks which airplane to buy? Bonanza! How many new Bonanzas built last year? 3! How about a new PA-32? Zero...

    The world will end shortly…

I think you made the right decision. The late model used thing isn't really working now, and it may be a number of years before it does. I bought both of my daughters late model used cars, and I figured that I saved about $3000 over buying used, assuming that they drive those cars until they're...

    DuPuis Family Cobra Build

My daughter has been learning to drive the GTI over the last few weeks. This morning, she went to Target in it, without me, so her first solo as a manual transmission driver. She's been out two or three more times since then, I think she's hooked. She's working both days this weekend and she's...

    <na> golden years plan

Assisted living isn't that expensive. Both of my inlaws lived in one for a few years, and my mother lived in one for a few months. Skilled nursing care is quite expensive, but assisted living is not that much more expensive than living in your own house. No, that's a miserable way to die. What...

    New Zenforo software

I see that in some forums we have "Sticky threads" and "Normal threads". POA being POA, maybe we should had a set of "Abnormal threads". :cornut:

    It flies again

General Douglas MacArthur's personal airplane, a VC-121A Lockheed Constellation has been restored and returned to flying status. The civilian equivalent is an L-749 Constellation. By returning to the air, this increases the number of airworthy Constellations from 2 to 3.

    Sub lost contact over Titanic

Have you ever tried that trick where you put your entire weight on an empty aluminum can, and it supports you, then tap it on the side just enough to dent it slightly, and it immediately collapses? That's what I think would happen, not a leak, but the structure deformed enough to where it...

I flew my Aircoupe into Ord.

My father owned half a share in an Ercoupe in the 1950's. It was based out of Orchard Field, which we all now call O'Hare International Airport.

    Maserati Granturismo (2014-2016) Thoughts

Back in the 80's, my father had the itch to buy a Mercedes-Benz SL roadster. He thought about it for a year or two, then finally bought one. He kept it for a year or two and then sold it, having scratched that particular itch. I drove it a couple of times, I didn't much care for it, it...

20% consume 80% of the Avgas

I'm not that invested in this to go to that much effort. I'm convinced that while the 80/20 rule was valid at some point, say 30 years ago, it isn't valid now. This is the product supplied data for Avgas, compiled by the U.S. Energy Information Agency, which corresponds to the consumption of...

20% consume 80% of the Avgas

I was thinking of that, but it might be a while I'm looking at Trade-a-Plane, there are 13 172RGs and 12 fixed gear Cardinals, the RGs would need 100 LL and the fixed gear would not. The Arrows should almost all be IO-360s or TSIO-360s, so they go in the 100 octane column. Even with making...

Do You Wash Your Wife's Car?

My wife got a new Lexus in February. It's been washed three times - by me. She was a little annoyed that I washed it on Sunday, but it had been six weeks, and that car needs to last.

20% consume 80% of the Avgas

OK, I cribbed this from FlightAware: Excuse the crudeness, I've been working all day, had to make dinner and have a release tonight. I grabbed this from the Airborne Aircraft page, and included all the recips that had at least 10 in the air when this was reported, which was around 6 PM EDT...
