Cessna P210 down near San Diego 11/15/2023

The weather around here was well known for a good week ahead of time! Seems like rusty or outright poor planning. Some people take 'sunny San Diego' for granted and get complacent with weather planning around here.. The approach to F70 is pretty easy.. if you fumble that I doubt you'll have...

Piper Malibu Mirage in Pierre (10/23)

Edit.. I'm an idiot. Yeah that makes less sense now... hmmmm. Still, the plane is generally intact, surprised that resulted in a fatal. Sucks.

Unbelievable Offduty Delta Mechanic notices GA Maintenance Issue from the Ground

So as a follow on to this. For those of us out there flying at night, if you see a singular red light, what does that tell you? Any boaters or sailors in this forum? What about a green light? There is a reason they're two different colors and have specific sides to go on..

So I key'd this up the other day in a lesson and it worked great!

Unbelievable Offduty Delta Mechanic notices GA Maintenance Issue from the Ground

That's pretty impressive detective work! Now, I hate to be that guy, but how thorough of a pre-flight are we doing out there?!

Which approach category minimums to select (flying faster than your plane's category)?

Letter of the law: 97.3 defines category based on "based on a speed of VREF, if specified, or if VREF is not specified, 1.3 Vso at the maximum certificated landing weight." so you can't really change your aircraft category simply by choosing to fly it faster Real world: the 'category' becomes...

    NOLA

You guys made me curious.. per Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_cities_by_crime_rate sorting high to low by "murder and nonnegligent manslaughter" New Orleans is definitely up there. .. I would be hesitant, looking at this, to say "just like any other city, be...

    Spin training

Interesting. When I did mine we did multiple fully developed spins. Decathlon. 5 rotations, then recovered. The first one sucked. After that each one feels less 'scary'

Fair - but you're marketing an extremely expensive 'toy' to a buyer that is now accustomed to modern accoutrements. If we're going with 91.205(d)(2) logic then what's the realistic cost of putting a new mic in there? I mean, they already threw the latest and greatest Garmin tech at these things...

Yeah. They look great on the ramp and fly nice but after about 25 hrs I've decided it's just not a plane for me. The cabin is incredible narrow. I hate the whole 'stagger the seats' thing.. every inch counts and the Centurion with 44 is noticeable. The more 'square' cabin also helps. In the case...

By the way, @GaryP1007 the timing is Apropos. Rich puts out great YouTube reviews of airplanes, this one he has for sale, but the videos are less 'sales' and more educational. Check it out! He just posted this Matrix video two days ago:

There must be some reason it is still included. haha, thanks for the informative post by the way. I don't know much about the Matrix, was nice to get the detailed info. My experience to 'nicer' single engine pistons are relegated to about 50 hrs of Centurion time and a few hundred in SR22T and...

This is a non value-added post, just one to rant about simpe aesthetics. You're spending tons of money on a 'new' plane, nothing should look after market. Oh man. Is that a factory picture? Why do so many Garmin suites look 'after market' even when coming from the factory. Mount them inset...

There's a N11LA that has similar "issues" here sometimes. 'I need the full callsign' so the best is just make the calls as NOVEMBER one one lima alpha

Instrument, Commercial and CFI - Budget and timeframe?

Close! I am at Plus One Flyers. We have about 100 airplanes give or take, good chill 'club' atmosphere, and about 200 or so CFI. The planes and the CFI are both in the club but 'rented' separately so you get a lot of freedom in who you want to fly with and what plane. I've enjoyed my time here...

    Economical x-country bird.

I had a few longer flights in a turbo plane and I'd still plan 3 hr legs. People are different though, and that's cool. For going somewhere relatively fast and relatively economically I'd still say the Mooney is the best bet. And this comes from someone who traditionally is not a Mooney type...

    Economical x-country bird.

..that was my thinking. 2.5 to 3 hrs, bladder or not, is about as long as I want to sit in a plane for any given stretch. Land, stretch your feet, check out a different FBO, then get back in the air.
