Extended truck service plans, yea or nay

"Extended warranties" are more like insurance policies than are the original manufacturer's warranties. If you like making insurance claims, go for it. The marketing effort that the dealers put into these things should be a tell about how profitable they are -- for them, not for...

    How is the Piper Comanche?

I owned a K35 Bonanza for several years, and have recent experience in a '65 Comanche 260. Some random thoughts: Comanche cabin is significantly wider. It's just plain comfortable. Visibility from a Bonanza is better - much better. Older Comanche panels are crazy. Older Bonanza panels are...

    Explain plane spotting to me

That's always been the case. The very best aircraft encyclopedias, especially those that include general aviation, always seem to have come from Britain. The annual, pocket-sized Observers' Book of Aircraft by William Green was something I looked forward to every year. The best aviation...

    How is the Piper Comanche?

A slower airplane with a better range can get there quicker than a "faster" airplane with shorter legs. The ability to safely skip a fuel stop is a powerful flight planning tool. PA-32s (84+ gal.) and PA-24s (many 90 gal., some even more) shine in this department.

    150/152 for tall pilots?

A little historical perspective on the Cherokee 140 ... In the early 1960s, Piper’s only two-seat trainers, the tube-and-fabric Super Cub and Colt, didn’t offer much competition to Cessna’s "modern", all-metal 150. Piper was developing a new trainer, the attractive low-wing, two-seat PA-29...

    150/152 for tall pilots?

That change was made effective with the 1967 C-150G, which came out in the fall of 1966. All 150s built since, and all 152s, have identical cabin dimensions. That said, I believe that around 1972 or 1973 the front seat cushions were made a little lower. There's no such thing as s "stock"...

Tangentially related but with an aviation connection. The "Ass-Kickin'" sauces are from a company in Goodyear AZ, owned by a guy named Jeff Jacobs, who bases his airplane at GYR ... but it's not me. The other guy has a really cool-looking King Air C90. I don't. :p When I call the FBO to...

    Moving To California

Mrs. P and I are both SoCal born and raised. It was a great place to grow up, but the handwriting was on the wall by 1995, and we voted with our feet. Ironically in the context of this thread, we moved to Vancouver WA. No regrets.
