Becoming an AMT (A&P) through OJT

My two cents would be that for someone starting out as a career, the school may be the better bet as it will be a more broad education. OJT is probably more in depth, but on a narrower range of subjects, hewing closely to the type of work the shop does. Quality can vary widely depending on how...

Becoming an AMT (A&P) through OJT

I haven't check lately, but it used to be that about half the bus mechanics for our Metropolitan Transit District were A&P grads.

Becoming an AMT (A&P) through OJT

A&P school was a great program for demystifying how all sorts of stuff works. It does prepare you to learn in the field, but there is an OJT period, even for Part 147 grads. My overall point is that good mechanics can come out of the OJT route and Part 147 isn't a guarantee that the mechanic...

    Air-to-Air Piper Comanche

I think it was economics more than the flood. The flood may have set the timing of the end, but didn't cause the end. The Comanches were just too much more expensive to build. Because of how they are built, they will live on for a very long time.

Becoming an AMT (A&P) through OJT

I went through Riddle's program in the 80's. I learned how to safety wire, but didn't learn how to cut open a filter and assess what I saw inside. I learned how to do a compression check by the book, but never did one and never learned to listen for leakage. I learned about radial engines and...

    Hypothetical Trainer: IFR Certified Tomahawk

I have flown the Tomahawk IFR. It is a fine little bird. Used to own one. Wish I still had it, just for flying the patterns. You can paint a Tomahawk on the runway like nothing else.

STC for adding an additional Seatbelt

With that data and the previous STC, probably doable on a field approval. I would take it on.

Netflix Releases Documentary on the Boeing MCAS Failures

I would say that the deck is stacked against any pilot coming from a culture that emphasizes rote memorization over understanding and creative thinking. Throw in a dash of authority worship and you have a shaky operation regardless of the aircraft. Check out Asiana Airlines' crash at SFO...

Netflix Releases Documentary on the Boeing MCAS Failures

Airbus is designed so idiots can ride up front and hopefully not screw up the computers which hopefully do not have any bugs built into the software by coders who have no skin in the game. It didn't work so well for Air France 447, but probably is the right approach for third world airlines...

Question about downed 1976 Piper Piper PA-31T Rivets

Looking at the picture on a larger screen than I did the first time, those are not CherryMax rivets. They may be Hi-Lok fasteners, which Piper has been known to use and are available for use in post-production maintenance.
