    Grease on prop

How long since the prop was overhauled? I had that issue with a customer's Twin Comanche that had been sitting for a dozen years, though only had 120 hours since overhaul. Most shops will only overhaul if the last overhaul was more than 10 years ago. That was particularly egregious in this...

Owner Assisted Annuals are Now Outlawed unless Supervised 100%.

The FSDO starts the process, and can do an administrative action on their own, but if they are going to go for a certificate action or civil fine, it requires consent and involvement of the region's legal office.

Owner Assisted Annuals are Now Outlawed unless Supervised 100%.

So removing from one airplane to put in another is not maintenance, but removing one to fix it or inspect what is underneath is maintenance? Rules are sometimes ambiguous. Sometimes they are written in Washington by people that don't know their a$$ for an aileron. The FSDO's are left to sort...

Owner Assisted Annuals are Now Outlawed unless Supervised 100%.

FSDO's are often wrong, as are you when repeating it in this instance. Airlines are full of owner produced parts. Airlines are the reasons that they have that provision. They don't want to pay OEM prices for lots of the common things and they will reverse engineer and produce them. When the...

So all the used parts we get from the boneyards are already illegal when we get them? You are trying to make the regs a lot more black and white than is the reality.

That is an interpretation, but not one that I would automatically make.

Owner Assisted Annuals are Now Outlawed unless Supervised 100%.

It only takes one to set a precedent, assuming the NTSB is too dense to figure it out, which is a distinct possibility. I am retired from lawyering, but have difficulty retiring my IA as needy Comanches keep showing up.

FAR 43.3(d) A person working under the supervision of a holder of a mechanic or repairman certificate may perform the maintenance, preventive maintenance, and alterations that his supervisor is authorized to perform, if the supervisor personally observes the work being done to the extent...

NTSB decisions are appealable. The NTSB likely knows that.

Cheapest way to build retract time

As good as an Arrow. A Comanche 250 much outperforms the Arrow. I assume that there are not 50' obstacles at the very end of the runway. The Comanches also have the advantage of not getting caught up in the Piper wing AD's that are ongoing. Completely different wing structure and much stronger.

Owner Assisted Annuals are Now Outlawed unless Supervised 100%.

I will make two observations: One, the question that the interpretation addressed is whether remote, electronic supervision was allowable. The bit that implies actually standing over someone so you can instantly intervene is what is called in the law "dicta". It is not meant to be precedence...

Cheapest way to build retract time

Comanche 180. Best value for the money. As it is long out of production, you need expert guidance on purchasing, but once you get over that hurdle, parts are available and the planes out perform an Arrow on less fuel. Insurance is higher, but otherwise, comparable operating expenses to an...

Am I crazy for considering a V-Tail Bo?

It will do well. B model and newer have easy to remove back seats which are handy for stashing the dogs. I have two big poodles and that is what I do. Turbo single Comanches are very rare, though there currently is one on TAP.

Am I crazy for considering a V-Tail Bo?

Piper Comanches are a great traveling airplane and even normally aspirated, it loves flying in the low teen's.

Experience with McFarlane Cowl Saver baffle seal material

I tried the Cowl Saver on my Twin Comanche, but am not a huge fan. I went back to the silicone. I find it a bit too stiff for optimal sealing. FYI, there are good Comanche resources on FB and the Airworthy Comanche Forum on Delphi. Enjoy your new bird! They are great planes.

    Savvy MX Maintenance

We fix Comanches. Savvy doesn't have anyone who knows much about Comanches. I won't deal with them, it would be a waste of my time. If an owner insists, I will help him/her find a shop that will work with Savvy. I know a number of other IA's that won't work with Savvy either. I am very...

    Beech V35 Midair Breakup

But I didn't comment on Crossfield's accident in the post you responded to. So you sarcasm is misdirected.

    Beech V35 Midair Breakup

So! What is the relevance to this discussion? Any airplane can break someplace. Are you suggesting that the C-210 has a similar rate of breakup to the V-tails prior to the AD? If so, lets see you data.
