Step 1 in modernizing my panel

I just signed the work order for my first modern piece of avionics in my Comanche. Since I'll be flying more frequently in ADS-B airspace, my priority was to be ADS-B compliant. I found a shop that gave me an amazing deal on a LYNX NGT 9000. That way, I don't just become ADS-B compliant but I...

    Avionics Shop Recommendation DFW

Do you have any recommendations for an avionics shop near Dallas to work on some avionics upgrades on my Comanche this fall? Also open to areas south, between Dallas and let's say San Antonio.

What do you log this as?

This absolutely doesn't look like something that can fly.

Weathermeister - no support, no airmets?

Never heard of this website before but just checked it out. It looks like straight out of the 90s. Try Windy. Sometimes I also use this one: https://www.avxcwx.com/ I think it's made by another POA member.

    Freeflight Rangr FDL 978 XVR

Well, seems like the avionics shop lied to me. I reached out to Freeflight to ask if the unit I have would work with the KT76C and they responded with the below message. Shoutout to Freeflight for their customer service by the way. I sent the email last night at around 8PM. They responded this...

    Freeflight Rangr FDL 978 XVR

Reading through the manual of the Freeflight, it says: Transponders with serial control data out capability (like the GTX- 330/327/32/33 and SL-70/R) should be connected via an FDL-978-XVR serial port to control Mode A code and IDENT. Mode A/C transponders without serial control out can use the...

    Freeflight Rangr FDL 978 XVR

Just trying to comply with U.S. ADS-B for flights to the U.S. Until now, I simply avoided ADS-B airspace but that's annoying. Canada doesn't have a mandate yet for smaller airplanes. It won't have any rules until 2028 at the earliest. Let me talk to the avionics shop tomorrow. The GDL is only...

    Freeflight Rangr FDL 978 XVR

Shipped to Canada? I assume the GDL 82 works perfectly fine with the KT76C?

    How much $$$?

    Freeflight Rangr FDL 978 XVR

The tailbeacon (and skybeacon) doesn't work on my plane due to GPS obstruction where they would be installed. Plus I just upgraded all my lights to LED. I was considering either a Garmin GDL 82 or the Rangr. Went for the Rangr as I got a good deal on it and it has ADS-B in and out which I...

    Freeflight Rangr FDL 978 XVR

I am looking for a quick ADS-B out solution and could get my hands on one of the Freeflight Rangr FLD 978 XVR units. It has part number 87098-00. I asked my avionics shop to install it and they came back to me today saying they could but based on what else I would need, I'm already at over...

I think it's time to quit Hertz

It’s usually not included but if you have AAA or roadside assistance included with your own car insurance, it usually extends to rented vehicles.

Canadian Mechanic in Texas (or Florida or anywhere in between)

Government up here doesn't work. If I call them, I'll be on hold for an hour and then disconnected. If I email them, I'll get a response in about a year (if ever). We don't pay enough taxes for them to be able to hire enough staff for basic services.

Canadian Mechanic in Texas (or Florida or anywhere in between)

I may move to Texas very soon. Visa is processing right now, fingers crossed. I would bring my Comanche with me, which is registered in Canada. It seems like FAA licensed mechanics are not allowed to sign off an annual on a Canadian registered aircraft (dumb rule, the plane is an American plane...

    Scammer on Facebook

Probably a scam but wouldn’t surprise me if some are really just very incompetent. Last week I called an FBO at a major airport in Canada. As we have an AvGas shortage up here again, I called ahead to make sure they had AvGas available. The conversation went something like this (FBO staff having...

Plane ‘cuts off’ multiple aircraft at Pitt Meadows airport

I flew into Pitt Meadows once and that was years ago. That day, the same thing happened (didn't make the news though). Cessna came in, talking to tower but not following any instructions. Cut me off, cut another plane off. It was like the wild west. Had some other very curious things occur in...

Watching the Blue Angels is Unhealthy

Let's also cancel 4th of July and New Year's Eve, those pesky fireworks are way too loud and are the main reason for our declining life expectancy in the U.S. We should also ban new homes, construction noise is terribly loud. What's wrong with living in tents anyways?

I think it's time to quit Hertz

I think it comes down to each location and if you don't have local knowledge, you just don't know. I had bad experiences with Hertz and good experiences with Hertz since I posted this thread. Same with Enterprise, Avis, etc. It comes down to who the manager is. Heck, it even comes down to who is...
