    Can You Survive Elevator Loss?

It could have been and probably was the trim system. He said it nosed over hard. If they hadn't started at 13k feet they wouldn't have been able to control it. They barely did as it was. Two very experienced pilots. My point was it was a non/mal-functioning elevator. They were able to land...

    Can You Survive Elevator Loss?

Yes, maybe. I know of a Pilatus Porter that broke a jack screw. It was able to land on throttle and remaining controls only. No elevator. I built my Fisher FP303 to be able to climb and descend on throttle only, letting the stick flop loose. Just rudder and throttle. I built it so...

    Side load and drift.

OP here... Thank you for all of your thoughts. A couple takeaways for me. I'm pretty sure I was relaxing the aileron correction after touchdown when it needs to be more of it as it slows. Keep my eyes farther down the runway. And I suspect that too much of the cross wind rudder was left...

    Side load and drift.

Hi, I'm curious as to ideas on how to keep the silly airplane straight down the center line. Not in flight but At and After touch down..? I did a flight review the other day with landings in a pretty direct 10 knot crosswind. I did ok with the wind but I want great, not ok. :) All is well...

When Plan A goes to hell / Flying outside your comfort zone / Flying in Alaska

If that is the Mendenhall Glacier it looks like the dog sled camp. They fly up tourists to the glacier on helicopters then do a short dog sled loop. The dogs and handlers live up there all summer.

Tandem jump medical vs pilot medical

It is for Tandem Instructors. They accept money to strap the paying public to their chest and jump out of a plane. So yeah they need to be somewhat medically fit... :)

F35B Nose gear collapse during tow in Okinawa

It almost looks like the parking brake was set. Wild speculation I know.. :D

Red Bull Pilots to Swap Planes in Midair

I guess on this one I get to add... Of the two guys doing this, Luke and Andy. Lukes Dad was my main CFI. Andy's dad was CFI for my first solo and other instruction. Luke and Andy taught me how to exit a perfectly flying airplane then fly an incredibly fast parachute/canopy. Both of those...

    Alice: Electric plane

I rebuilt an ultralight once and flew it. And I am a pilot, so I am quite smart... (tongue in cheek) That said, the wing loading on that looks like it is quite high. It "appears" it would have to fly quite fast to keep aloft.

    Starship...?

If you have nothing better to do... Use Goggle maps to look at Skagit Regional in WA. There is a pretty rare aircraft sitting out front of the Exec fbo. Just like it is ready for a daily trip. Pretty cool. I would post a screen grab, but seem to have technical defficieny.

Aircraft Stalls as Skydivers Prepare to Jump

I have been there and done that. The Caravan pilot was rather mad at us... So a change of procedure followed, not allowing so many outside the door. A friend did it in a Loadstar in '83, I think. He was the last out. He made it out after being plastered to the floor without being able to...

    Non tower airport

I fly into that particular "Zoo" quite often also. I will choose whichever runway suits my needs at the moment as well. Landing on the shorter one with traffic on the bigger one is a non issue really. You don't have to land or have to do a certain size pattern. Eyes on a swivel and radio work...

    Zenith CH 650 cruise speed

I did 1,000nm in ours last weekend from Near Seattle to the Nevada desert and back. 139kts. is just a little on the optimistic side:lol:. Ours is a clean build with wheel pants. Rotax 100ULS 100hp. 110kts at 5,300 rpm 7,500 feet is a real number. That at your Rotax standard 5 gph. I was...

    177RG Lake Havasu

When you say "Mogas" does that mean ethanol free or include with ethanol? My question really is does ethanol free pump gas have the same vapor issue? We fly a Rotax 912 and use ethanol free premium.

I'm liking your videos and editing. I'm PNW also. The way you mark the end of your flight leg is a little disconcerting, however. ;)

    C177 down Whidbey Island (W10)

Flight Aware shows he was more set up for 16. But even if he was clear of the clouds, due to the trees he still couldn't see the runway from his longish Base. I was high and went around from that same approach first time there. Sad.

Touch and Go at a towered airport?

Thanks all so much for the detailed thoughts and local knowledge. I took some points from this thread and went to Paine yesterday. Pretty fun. Not perfect, but I have never been perfect yet... Most of my flying is me talking to the radio and it not really responding. It is definitely a...

Touch and Go at a towered airport?

Hi, I have recently started flying again after many years not. I trained at a small airport, 86WA, Kapowsin, and didn't then do a lot of tower or radio time. I would like to start doing more radio work and get over the 'radio fright' kind of thing. I am renting out of a small field (Harvey...

    Detached vs Attached hangar

From a design standpoint getting the usually taller roof of a hanger structure to look good with the usually lower roof of a house can be difficult to not make look awkward. Even separating it with a breezeway type structure makes the the roof and aesthetic design easier and usually nicer.
