First Tailwheel flight + Back to Basics with POA Pilot

Yes, they are perishable, but I think you can get to the point where they aren't soo perishable. I've got close to 825 dual given in tailwheel and over 2000 landings with students and I've had a few times when I had to go do my 90 day currency for lack of time to go fly tailwheel between aerial...

    TR182 vs Turbo Normalized 177R

I don't like takeoffs in the 177RG even in Midland during the summers when it's 100 degrees outside. DA is a real thing with the Cardinal.

Now that's something I want to do.

First Tailwheel flight + Back to Basics with POA Pilot

Thanks @SixPapaCharlie! It was genuinely fun flying with you. Bryan did a great job of listening and paying attention and has had some good instructors in the past because he picked things up faster than some folks I've worked with. I was quite happy with the way the flight went.

    So I bought a C182 - what now?

Get some decent instruction until you're comfortable with the "hard" stuff on the checkrides - soft field, short field, slow flight, stalls, steep turns, and don't be surprised when it's nose heavy.

    Our move to Texas

I've been flying a Canadian bird a little bit lately. Not a biggie.

Civilian Pilot Training Program (1938-44) question.

Chances are it may have worn more than one coat of paint, and saw a recover or two during the war, too.

Looking for info on less lethal/non lethal self defense products

This is a case of quality ammo being a must. Personally, when I carry a 22LR weapon, it's carrying Federal Punch 22LR in it. In this case, when I go for a 22, I'm usually carrying a small Ruger LCP 22... which happens to be a fairly reliable option. I'd probably try to get it past 500 rounds...

    C182 v 737 KAUS Oct16 2024 RA

If it's pipeline it won't make that big of an impact.

FFS. I need a new hobby.

I feel ya. Two significant gear issues in one of our planes in 8 years - and not for a lack of throwing money at keeping it fixed.

I'm biased because we are based at Ambassador. They treat my crew really well.

How to make the best pilot possible?

As if another 250 hours of flying a 172 would solve that? I'm going to say that quality of hours is more important than quantity at that point. Even 10 hours of tailwheel will force an improvement in quality.

    Our move to Texas

Some of us are tough like our ancestors that moved here before air conditioning was a thing.

That hat thing I could give a pass, but there are so many things that are practical about boots, and they are cooler than dress shoes, too.

    Our move to Texas

That's like 30 years ago. Pretty much not a thing these days. Might get your truck broken into, as well in some places.

How to make the best pilot possible?

This is true. I don't let Cessna 150 pilots or Piper Tri-Pacer pilots fly sloppy as a few of my students could tell you, but the common denominator is usually an instructor that has a tailwheel background or higher than average standards. A certain percentage of the student population is going...

How to make the best pilot possible?

I think that this could be argued both ways. I would guess if we dug a bit, we'd find that there have been some dumb, dumb decisions that skilled pilots have flown themselves out of. Maybe you boxed yourself into a stupid corner, or chose to fly an airplane that maybe you should've left on the...
