Meh. You're overthinking my post. You also failed to understand the implications of the stuff I said after that.

Southwest Airliner Hit by Gunfire in Dallas 11/15/24

Abilene's got it's own charm... call me weird, but I could live there, or San Angelo, and I fly over it every week.

Southwest Airliner Hit by Gunfire in Dallas 11/15/24

True, but there ARE unwritten rules and written guidelines in the news media about things like suicide because they KNOW it can trigger copycats. https://www.who.int/publications/i/item/9789240076846 https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC1124845/ https://reportingonsuicide.org/ I believe...

You should see a Short-Wing Piper profile.

Gear up landing, when does the FAA get involved?

Still, even though we could pretty much prove irrefutably that it wasn't a pilot error issue, the FAA did talk to us and wanted to know what caused the incident, and to be honest, I wasn't bothered in the least that they did. If I owned a Cardinal, (and we have three in the company) I'd want to...

What is too windy for training in a 172?

Wow, you resurrected an 11 year old thread! There's a difference in dangerous conditions. Some conditions are generally only dangerous to the untrained - and then there are conditions that I wouldn't take off in. It's a relative scale, and you shouldn't lack training and feel grounded (in...

Gear up landing, when does the FAA get involved?

I'm officially the photographer on board, but I did the landing. And, yeah, that was me taking some photos to send to my boss.

Most likely the flight was planning to depart from 13R, and if it was hit in the right side, that would strongly point to the area around Bachmann Lake Park.

Gear up landing, when does the FAA get involved?

Someone says a plane crashed, the police roll up, their "protocol" says to call the FAA. Been there done that, got detained in a field for something like 3 hours after an oil line failure a few years back. Doesn't matter that the plane wasn't damaged in the landing. The issue is general...

    Texas Prebuy Needed

Yes, there's a guy in Odessa that knows that kind of thing I believe at Epic Aero. https://www.epicaerogroup.com/ What kind of plane? I'm at Odessa almost every week on Thursday's for fuel.

Gear up landing, when does the FAA get involved?

Our situation where the gear wasn't locked was just over a month ago - the FAA came and looked, and it's being classified as an incident and we're hopefully flying her again on Monday. https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/dallas-executive-airport-belly-landing/3667505/ Yes, technically most...

Gear up landing, when does the FAA get involved?

Doesn't matter. Once the FAA's been called, dodging makes you look bad. If it's a towered airport, the tower probably has a SOP to call. If it's state or local police, they don't know the rules on what constitutes and accident vs an incident and they usually just call because they don't know...

Gear up landing, when does the FAA get involved?

Yes. Been there, done that twice. Be honest, 'fess up if you messed up. If it was a gear issue like both of ours were, and your paperwork is in order, it's a non-event except for repairs. If something in the gear broke, your fellow aviators want to know if there's a weak point in the system. If...

Trap doesn't do that. Very low energy and range. Somebody'd have to have been inside the fence to "pull" that off.

    Wrong airport.

Southwest Airliner Hit by Gunfire in Dallas 11/15/24

It looks like they were south flow last night. That fits with my suspicion that it might be the NW end of Love. I'd bet good money the bullet was fired from a rifle, not a pistol, and assuming it was before takeoff, it was a serious malicious attempt.

Southwest Airliner Hit by Gunfire in Dallas 11/15/24

There are some pretty ghetto areas not that far from the NW end of Love... just sayin'. I've done photo work over some of the apartments up there. Wouldn't shock me to find out some foreign gangs are in the area. Nor would it shock me that some fool thought it would be cool. There's generally...

Balancing Moderation for a Thriving Community

That, and there's a definitive aspect of politics that does affect our ability to fly. It's a fine line and I don't envy the mods.

Balancing Moderation for a Thriving Community

I for one am a huge fan of forums vs other forms of social media. Perhaps we all need to do a bit better about spreading the word to newer pilots. I think a lot of younger folks don't realize the advantages of the forum format over things like Facebook and Instagram or Tacky-tick. As far as the...
