    Internet

I don’t think it’s legal to use cellular in the air because it switches towers so much. It may not be the case, but that is what I heard. There are systems to give you internet in the air, but they are very expensive.

I’m working a deal on a plane trade and need to find a 540 to trade for my 550. Depending on the age of the 540, I need $4,000-5,000 on the deal. The 550 is <7 months old.

How Should Avionics be Connected for IFR Flight

You will need a com radio and Mode C transponder, and should have ADS-B Out in many places. I thought that should go without saying. Any plane you will fly IFR should have those already, except maybe the ADS-B.

How Should Avionics be Connected for IFR Flight

There should be a nav indicator (CDI with Glideslope or HSI with Glideslope) connected to the 430W. That’s all that is required for navigation. You will require a functioning 6-pack as well. Vertical speed is not required, but recommended. You will need an Attitude indicator, DG, altimeter...

    Updating Garmin G5 gets stuck

I believe the Garmin folder should be in the root directory, not the contents.

    Wireless interaction

I agree that would be nice, but there is a warm fuzzy feeling I get knowing things are hardwired together. Much less chance of interference or broken connections. I would never trust critical items to a wireless connection, personally.

    Dual Garmin G5s IFR panel?

Looks like you covered most of the arguments already. I would say that Absolutely the panel you have mapped out is a valid IFR panel. The G3X is not cheaper than 2 G5's when you add the required components. You will need the basic engine gauges, all of which are not listed, but the CGR should...

Garmin 530 issues after FW update

I have never heard of it doing this, but that is the easy thing to check to verify that it somehow didn't lose calibration.

Garmin 530 issues after FW update

You may need to do a recalibration of the deviation, which is done in the 530 configuration pages. You will set the needle at 150 degrees and then push a button on the 530 and it will recalibrate. See if that makes a difference.

Comm 2 has died. Is it worth replacing?

The main purpose for having 2 Com radios is to have a backup in the case that your primary fails. This would be the reason to get the KX155 replaced. Listening to an ATIS frequency is an added bonus. If your audio panel is not wired to monitor the standby frequency in the Avidyne, then that...

    C172 Generator braked tripping

At night, it’s likely you are using what the generator is putting out, but probably not putting out as much as it should. If it gets to 13.9 ever, then it’s working, but maybe not putting out as much as it should. If it wasn’t charging, then the voltage would continue to decrease. If it read...

Dynon Skyview HDX vs GI 275s

You can’t go wrong with the Dynon system. The G5’s and GI275’s don’t provide much, if any, integration with the GTN that you wouldn’t get from the Dynon. The G3X Touch will give you a slightly better integration with the GTN compared to the Dynon, but that would be substantially more expensive yet.

    Q: Dynon HDX + GTN

It sounds like a configuration issue. Can you post pics of your Dynon and GTN ARINC settings? What happens if you change the CDI to VLOC on the GTN?
