    shade tree engine mount repair

My bud has a L-3 with documented history of having LOST its engine on its acceptance flight. Like fell right off, gone, very tail heavy. Engine recovered from a field some time later. Pilot landed safely. There is no reason you can’t fly a plane that’s AFT cg. It’s just not stable and it’s...

First class medical with two DUI’s

I wrote you a detailed response but you don’t allow personal messages. This isn’t the place for me to list a resume. n0kkj@yahoo.com It’s a zero not the letter oh.

FAA Drops Expiration Date from CFI

The online FIRC isn’t horrible. I was surprised. I actually learn a bit from them… Have only used ACE, I imagine most are similar.

First class medical with two DUI’s

It sounds like ALL your cases required monitoring. I’d worry about horror stories… or at least educate myself. THAT is what I’m trying to do. False positives in the context of FAA REQUIRED LDTs have cost careers and LIVES. These false positives are EASY to deal with yet the FAA continues to...

FAA Drops Expiration Date from CFI

With respect to #3, I think it’s 15 wings proficiency events with at least 5 people. Kinda cool, I’m a CFI that does a lot of BFRs and rusty pilot stuff, not a lot of signing folks off for checkrides. Overall it’s mostly saving printing a lot of cards…. Endorsements will change with the...

Pilot threatened with arrest for helping NC victims of Hurricane Helene...excuse me?

Best I can tell, an isolated event. It happens… I don’t get it, but it does. Apparently lots of other amateur assistance just worked out fine. Cool!

Skew-T diagrams removed because blind people can’t see them

Now wait… they’re waiting for a solution that includes BLIND people SEEING them? That would be remarkable….

First class medical with two DUI’s

I understand YOU are ok with “reasonable” care of a career. That’s clear. Good for you and your clients. And you go right on and keep accepting that poor standard, because it is what it is. Really, why would you care about trying to improve that? Making good money doling out reasonable...

Fatal Crash at First Flight, 9/28

What ever happened, he probably did not understand. It surprised him pretty severely. May have been denial, as in overloaded… just thought it could do it. May have been non responsive control inputs… because he was already too slow for them to do anything. Who knows. But since he was...

First class medical with two DUI’s

The FAA STD that’s disavowed by the guy who is credited with developing the test? Using LDTs that have ZERO credibility or oversight and not approved by the FDA? Tests that are as known for false negatives AND false positives and generally laughed at by the rest of the medical world? Great...

    HOW DID THEY FLY WARBIRDS??

It isn’t that military training is so amazing. What is amazing is their ability to determine who is gonna make through their training. This is achieved through the use of wildly vetted metrics, empirically gathered. I was perfectly capable of landing a jet on a carrier solo with less than 150...

    Why would avionics backlighting pulse?

Bad ground? Even internally…. WAY back in the day I was famous for fixing all sort of weird electronic problems in the air wing (other pilots personal stuff) by taking apart and looking for bad soldered ground connections or not so tight screws that were responsible for grounding.

Pilot threatened with arrest for helping NC victims of Hurricane Helene...excuse me?

I have a slight (read HUGE) problem with authority… and still woulda. But ABSOLUTELY do not fault the guy. And for ANY reason he chooses. I don’t wish the problems I’ve had being the way I am on anyone. Ha!

    Instrument training…

Partial panel nowadays is a whole new thing… not sure the ACS and training systems have really kept up. Had 8 round things in the past, limited number of failures. The vast array of stuff now, and the vast array of ways they can fail/deceive/confuse, not to mention self induced problems… it’s...

Fatal Crash at First Flight, 9/28

SOMETHING likely got them in “startle response” mode. At that point, all bets are off. What happens after that isn’t the topic of discussion. It’s what caused that startle response. Having the correct startle response is more of a historical question, and a result of training years ago.

    FAA Airmen Certification Branch Efficiency!

Recently registered a plane whose registration had expired… in the past this has been taking a year or more. This time, a month or so ago, maybe 3 weeks. A replacement airworthiness cert, 3 days? These are good things. Congrats to your son! Bravo to you for that kind of support!
