Live rifle fire across an open runway

I've shot guns on a golf course as part of a golf tournament, lol.

    S Turns over an Airport????

Agreed. No problem at all with just holding position until you feel it's safe to resume. Even if you can get eyes on the guy and don't see a conflict, it may be safer just to hang out for another minute or two to allow for spacing in case he does something unexpected (or someone else adds to...

    Rachet tie down question

I do wonder if having a small section of chain at the bottom would help function a bit like the chain lead on an anchor. Helps absorb some of the shock from lighter gusts from disturbing the anchor point (especially when using an auger-style tie down in grass). The upper section of rope would...

    S Turns over an Airport????

Guess that depends on where the aircraft is when you reach 1K' AGL upon departure. Doesn't seem a whole lot different than a go-around or low pass from an operations standpoint, but that may also depend on how long it takes to do the S-turns (and how far into the downwind leg that S-turn gets).

Home electrics - dangerous or just shoddy?

Sounds like a "them" problem lol.

    Rachet tie down question

You are just trying to hold it relatively in place, not ensure it never moves a centimeter. No need to tighten ratchet straps down to the point where you're bending or breaking something. The hooks do need to have a spring clasp to ensure they don't fall off if loosened. I would use a set rated...

Home electrics - dangerous or just shoddy?

Hopefully there was some grounding via the light fixture attachment screws lol.

They also make these which have a hole-saw built into it so that it drills the hole for you.

Home electrics - dangerous or just shoddy?

Dangerous? Probably not. Up to code? No. You can buy a ceiling box that will recess into the drywall and run your electrical wire into. It has tabs that extend to grab onto the back side of the drywall to secure it. As long as your light fixture doesn't exceed the weight rating it will work...

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

I used an online outfit called The AC Outlet. My unit actually shipped direct from Daikin (major AC/refrigeration manufacturer) in Wichita, KS. I was a little hesitant to make such a large purchase from an online retailer, but they had the unit to my door in less than 5 business days and...

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

Not a mini-split, a package unit. You see them a lot more on commercial applications, but in my case the kitchen/master BR are on a crawlspace and apparently it was easier to keep the entire unit outside rather than carve out an interior space for the heater/blower like a typical split system...

Should have just gotten rid of the ballasts and installed LED replacement bulbs that use 120V direct-wire.

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

I just replaced one of my AC units a few weeks ago. Package unit (2Ton A/C and gas heat packed outside the house) which I was quoted $3K to repair, $8,500 to replace. I bought a brand new unit (same brand and tonnage) shipped to my door for $2,850 with pad. The good thing about package units...

How many here have read these books. See attached poll?

Well, a thread titled "How many here have read" doesn't really make any sense. Then the given choices for polling are MEI or CFII? Just not a lot of coherence there.

Did you have a stroke while typing out the thread topic/question?

There's something ironic about having switched to a graphic that is more vague than a "Cone of Uncertainty", lol.
