Rumours of my demise have been greatly exaggerated (my airplane is now a go-to image for crash articles)

Sorry that you died brother. But at least you got bet-uh. Could have worse, could have been turned into a newt.

    The journey of 1300nm begins...

I’ve had the pleasure of helping to catch four laser operators in the Tucson area over the past few years. The Tucson Police dept helicopter flies nightly. Every time an aircraft reports a laser event to me in the tower, or through tracon who tells me, I send Air1 to the coordinate given. Hasn’t...

    Thank You for Your Service

It was always awkward for me too and I didn’t know what to say. “You’re welcome” didn’t sound right so now I just say “thank you for your support” but I don’t wear anything that would indicate I was ever in the Air Force. I wore a uniform for 24 years, that was enough. It is when I use my...

    AUS Again

Sounds like a normal day at work for me. The difference between Navy/Marine and Air Force pilots is notable. The controller should have given pattern altitude and direction of turns on the initial transmission but he didn’t. That was the “misunderstanding”. Edit: I’m not saying that one branch...

Mechanic in Annual Inspection Replaced ELT that hadn't expired and charged me for it

Yep me too until someone comes along and tells you it’s really only 3 years because that is 50% of its life. Seems to me that manufacturers base the expiration date on that fact but some IAs feel otherwise

[NA] Where to get Philly cheese steak?

I fly through Philly every year on my way to Watertown NY. Tony Lukes is in the airport. Last time it was $25 for a cheese steak, fries and a small drink. I think I’ll skip it this year which is exactly one month from today

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

My plane was started for the first time yesterday after 4 new cylinders, power flow exhaust and an EI engine Monitor was installed. It’s been two and a half years - Long story but here’s hoping a November 1st sign off and back in the air just in time for cooler temperatures

    Daily Pic

My wife sent me that picture with the news story. I have no idea why she sends me all the pics and articles about Arizona plane crashes. It could be to remind me to be careful or that she considers what I do very dangerous. She hates flying, even commercial. Soooo I found an article about...

    Kris Kristofferson (June 22, 1936 – September 28, 2024)

I met him at the BX on Kadena air base in Okinawa. No entourage, just him and he was shopping. What he was doing on the island was a mystery. There wasn’t a concert at any of the camps, posts or the base that I knew about. I remember he was much shorter than I thought. Rest in peace Kris

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

When I was I kid and working for a farmer, I loved harvest season. It’s cooler, the smells are different and it’s nice to see the results of all that hard work. Good memories

    Aviation Etiquette

If you are doing something on the ground that requires your head to be down such as tuning radios and NAV gear, LOOK AROUND every so often. You may be blocking someone else from taxiing back to their hangar. 12 minutes I waited for this guy to pull his nugget out of his arse

    Why would avionics backlighting pulse?

    Why would avionics backlighting pulse?

Is the pulsing consistent with a warning light if you have them? Press the E button and see if it steadies. I had the same issue and even relocated the dimming sensor with no change. Then I read the manual. Not saying yours doesn’t have an issue, just based on my experience
