[rant] The really bad design thread

It started out on the other side but was very difficult to access due to the kitchen layout.

Been there, done that. Tried to change a tire on a '68 Dart and broke one off before I figured out what was going on.

[rant] The really bad design thread

Note the location of this switch, which turns the inside light on when the door is opened. It is placed in exactly the worst possible location possible. This is probably the third time this month I have gashed my hand on the sharp protrusion while either reaching for or placing an item in the...

    Tankless water heaters

The water is hard, but not particularly corrosive. Obviously the water seems to be attacking the tanks. I suppose there could also be some sort of galvanic action issue too through the piping. I assume the pressure tanks are made of steel, which is anodic to the copper piping attached to the...

    Tankless water heaters

See, that's the whole thing. The verdict isn't out on the reliability of the tankless and hopefully won't be out for a long time, but the tanked water heaters haven't been reliable. The tankless replaces the third, maybe even the fourth unit whose failure mode has been to split open and create a...

    Decaf coffee [NA]

I don't like coffee to begin with. I only drink it for the caffeine and sometimes I'll opt for a girly energy drink instead. And I'll take the office Keurig hands down over the bitter acid served up by the Peet's next to the gym.

Is it OK to tell everybody that my dog had puppies?

Yeah I think so in this case, despite the lack of marital involvement. p.s. nice puppies!

A barbecue adventure, the saga unfolds.

It's interesting that some of characteristics of prize winning BBQ is counter to my personal taste. I generally don't care for sauces on my bbq, especially sweet ones. It's not an absolute rule, but sweet glazes are out for me. A little sauce on a brisket sandwich would hit the spot of course...

Senior Enlisted Petty Officer Court Martialed

You bring up a good point. Article 15 action is administrative with limited punitive measures, and the ship/unit can keep carrying on business as usual. A courts martial on the other hand is a big deal, particularly when multiple defendants are involved. The captain has to make a hard choice on...

    Tankless water heaters

In much of SE Asia, hot water is supplied by small electric point of use tankless heaters, e.g. one in the shower and one in the kitchen sink. They seem to work pretty well. Washing machines tend to be small and have their own water heaters.

Senior Enlisted Petty Officer Court Martialed

I was an E1 when I got to my first TOD unit in Germany. My platoon sergeant was an E6. Four years later I ran in to him at Ft Hood, and we were both outprocessing for ETS. We were both E5's. He was caught using drugs, got busted down a rank and given a bar to reenlistment. One of the other E6's...

A barbecue adventure, the saga unfolds.

I notice that a central theme is heavy on the glazes. Is that the general rule for prize winning entries?
