Tach to Hobbs conversion for logging

Most? In my experience, only 1 airplane I've ever flown was wired like that, and that was the one I owned. All the others I've rented or otherwise flown were wired to an oil pressure switch.

Tach to Hobbs conversion for logging

Who's going to be able to contest differently? If you say a flight was 2.0, there's nobody that can say "no, it was only 1.8 because of tach conversion errors, blah blah". I'm not saying to just make up numbers, but if you put down 2.0 due to measuring in a reasonable way, it's 2.0. But I also...

Cfi lesson plan from scratch or pre made lesson plan

I have always been a strong advocate of building your own lesson plans. It's a skill you need to have, and when else are you going to force yourself to practice that skill then while in CFI training? I've posted my views on this before:

    Manifold pressure(aircraft) vs engine vacuum(automotive)

Simply put, they're basically the same gauge, just marked differently for historical, human factors, and practicality reasons.

GNS430W and 530W - Failing to suspend when in a hold... how to fix the result

Can you press the FPL button, scroll up to the hold, and Menu - Activate Leg? Or does that option disappear once you've exited? I haven't actually tried this before.

91.3 emergency authority - "deviate from any rule OF THIS PART" - practical effects?

That's an interesting case regarding PIC decisions and authority. Especially as there's a dissenting opinion by one of the board members at the end.

91.3 emergency authority - "deviate from any rule OF THIS PART" - practical effects?

If you've read any of the previous posts in this thread, there have been several suggestions. Consider a non-night-current Private Pilot takes off with passengers 2 hours before sunset for an hour flight. Has a gear extension problem. While working it, the sun sets, and it's now an hour past...

91.3 emergency authority - "deviate from any rule OF THIS PART" - practical effects?

Again, this isn't really the scenario I want to discuss.

91.3 emergency authority - "deviate from any rule OF THIS PART" - practical effects?

Thanks Mark, I was hoping you'd chime in. That's an interesting case. Not exactly what I was looking for, but pretty close to it. I would actually like to read more on that one, do you know if the case is publicly available? I do certainly hope that your second paragraph is true! You brought...

91.3 emergency authority - "deviate from any rule OF THIS PART" - practical effects?

Nobody's "worried" about him violating anything, and nobody in their right mind would say he should be violated, but it's pretty clear in this scenario that the now-pilot is violating: 61.31c and d (not rated in the category and class), and possibly e, f, and g (endorsements required for a King...

    Air-to-Air Cessna 421

A 421 was my first real "contract pilot" job, so I have a soft spot for them. Great pics!

91.3 emergency authority - "deviate from any rule OF THIS PART" - practical effects?

Well, that is kind of the extreme example of what I'm asking about though - the emergency happened, and in order to deal with it the (now) PIC violates a non-Part 91 rule (in this example Part 61 regarding ratings). Obviously in this case nobody is going to say the now-PIC did anything wrong...

91.3 emergency authority - "deviate from any rule OF THIS PART" - practical effects?

That's kind of what I'm posing the question to find out. I mean, I can come up with examples, but I don't want the discussion to be about those particular examples, but more about the generic case. @Bell206 's statement is an interesting related situation as well. Okay, I guess, for example, a...

91.3 emergency authority - "deviate from any rule OF THIS PART" - practical effects?

It is often stated that a pilot can break "any" rule to deal with an emergency. I heard a pilot say this just the other day. Of course, this isn't technically true. 91.3 specifically says you can deviate from any rule of this part. (b) In an in-flight emergency requiring immediate action, the...

    First class medical with Hypothyroidism?

I agree, been doing this for years. No issue. I bring the doctor's note and test results on an annual basis (so, every other appointment), the AME thanks me and moves on. A complete non-issue.

    HOW DID THEY FLY WARBIRDS??

Simply put, it was necessary. There was a war on. And they had a LOT of crashes/injuries/fatalities in training.

    WingX CFI Free No More

It seems to me, from looking at the version history, that WingX was basically abandoned in March of 2021. Prior to that, updates were released every few months or so. Since then, there have only been two updates, both of which simply say "Improved app stability and performance." Compare that to...

    What Drives Insurance Cost?

That's actually an interesting point we don't see asked here, ever, that I can recall. We talk a lot about insurance rates going up or being unattainable at 70. But are rates higher for young pilots too, like they are for car insurance? Probably not much of a sample size, not too many 16-25 year...

Garmin VNAV on an LNAV approach

I don't see why that's such a bad option, depending of course on the actual wind and weather (which I don't believe you've stated). The runway is 6500 feet long, and landing on runway 12 you have a 1.1% uphill grade. So in almost any "normal" light GA airplane you have plenty of runway...

    If a plane were weightless...

@Rene is proposing a Part 103 (ultralight) solution. Part 103 is limited to 5 gallons of fuel. Using Helium would be no problem. If hydrogen was used instead for buoyancy, there would be more than 5 gallons of it. Since hydrogen is usable as a fuel (probably not in this implementation, but...
