    [NA] Toyota Tundras

I had to look it up. The max gross is 5,800 lbs, and I’ll bet loaded we’re probably close to that. Another trip to the scales is likely in order.

    [NA] Toyota Tundras

Not sure about that. Gen 2 V8’s are notoriously bad on gas - I believe 17 highway is what they specify, but most owners don’t seem to get that. So far, we’ve seen 22 mpg in ours when not towing, on par with our Flex. On our recent FL trip towing our travel trailer we got between 11.5 and 14 mpg...

    Tesla Pickup Unveil

My decision, as expressed in a Facebook post: Bottom line: $99,990 for the AWD “Foundation” model. Compare that to what Elon teased in 2019:

    [NA] Toyota Tundras

I’m starting this thread to avoid further derailing of the solar eclipse thread by discussion about our new-to-us Toyota Tundra. As background, in 2014 we bought a 21’ aluminum travel trailer with the intent of towing it with an SUV. To that end, we bought a lightly used 2011 Ford Flex with an...

    Ship hit the span

What surprised me was how that single point of impact brought the whole span down like a house of cards. Maybe I’m naive, but I would have assumed some level of redundancy if one support was compromised.

Do you plan on flying (or traveling in general) to see the eclipse on April 8th?

Too much of a hijack for the topic of this thread. I’ll try to start one on our Tundra experience so far.

Masters of the Air--coming to Apple TV

Just finished Masters of the Air. Karen and I thought it was excellent, and the quality of the CGI - or lack thereof - was hardly noticed and did not affect our level of enjoyment at all.

Tennessee Senate passes bill outlawing Chemtrails

Me, too. Beautiful state but our representatives leave a LOT to be desired!

Do you plan on flying (or traveling in general) to see the eclipse on April 8th?

Karen and I are leaving 4/1, headed to a campground in Killeen, TX, arriving a day before. Have high school friends coming to the area from San Francisco and Phoenix. A fun way to travel. Here at a blueberry farm near Jacksonville on a recent FL trip.

Masters of the Air--coming to Apple TV

I think it’s been great. But obviously a very subjective thing.

A letter from the Southeast United States

I’ve learned that before I get aggravated at the idiot driving along with his or her turn signal on, that I check to be sure mine isn’t on as well!

    L-39 Formation Flight

Funny about that! A few weeks ago Karen and I (and Halo) dropped in on Salty at his FL digs. His Nanchang is a truly awesome beast - no denying that! But I was recently chatting with Half Fast about my impressions. Mainly, that I’d be out of my comfort zone with so many new and different...

A letter from the Southeast United States

Yes, Tennessee summers get warm, but NOTHING like the long, hot and humid weather in S FL.

A letter from the Southeast United States

Where we have homes in N GA and E TN, both in the foothills of the Appalachians, LOTS of folks are moving here both from Florida and parts north. I’m in the former category, having made the move in 2005 to N GA after 30 years in S FL. The 30 years in S FL were wonderful, but I now prefer the...

Any regrets moving up to better plane

Along those lines… After selling our Cirrus, a friend generously offered us the use of his when we wanted, for just the cost of gas. We had a trip to S FL coming up, and did the math: Round trip about 8 hours, at an estimated 15 gph. At the AVGAS prices then, fuel alone would have been right...

Any regrets moving up to better plane

My Cirrus surprised me with its efficiency. The Tiger is no slouch in this regard, but the Cirrus beat it handily. One common mission was S Fl to N GA. In the Tiger at 132 kts it was about 5 hours @ 10 gph. With 50 gals fuel it took a fuel stop unless there was a substantial tailwind. But the...

Any regrets moving up to better plane

I fit the profile you described, but this is just a data point: The peak of my plane ownership was the factory demo Cirrus SR22 I bought in 2003. I had moved up from a Grumman Tiger, which was also a great plane. No regrets - many wonderful hours flying a very capable plane, and at the time I...

    This flying seems awfully expensive...

We must consider ourselves fortunate that even when a medical becomes problematic, we have BasicMed and Light Sport to fall back on.

Toyota is right about EVs after all...

Near Tampa, so we got to see one in the flesh: My imposing stature makes it seem small, but in the flesh it seems quite massive. Though I believe its overall dimensions are not far off from your typical pickup.

    Crosswind landing no-flap taildragger

As mentioned upthread, not necessarily. Crosswinds often diminish markedly in ground effect, due to surface friction.
