    How I got phished!

I posted this both as a mea culpa, and as a warning to others. On the one hand, at 74 I’m part of a target demographic for this sort of thing. On the other hand, I’ve successfully navigated these shark infested waters since soon after 1985 when my first Mac went online. A few close calls, but...

    How I got phished!

Part 2 I went through my Safari history and found the bait: Note the “q” in Linqsys in the “Sponsored” link. I was never talking to a Linksys rep at all. I Googled the phone number I had called and it same back to a tech company in Delaware. I called and was about to tear into them about...

    How I got phished!

Part 1 As backstory, last week my Linksys RE6400 repeater had gone offline. It’s happened a couple of times in the past for no apparent reason, but was fairly easy to get set up again. Last Wed afternoon I got around to dealing with it. I Googled “Linksys RE6400 Setup” and clicked on one of...

Champion T-Handle Spark Plug Lead Wrench $$$

That’s a cool tool, but couldn’t a crow’s foot wrench in the proper size get the job done about as well?

    Pocket knife: Weird or normal?

If anyone is in E TN near Pigeon Forge, there’s a HUGE knife shop in nearby Sevierville. Knives and a LOT more! https://smkw.com/

Straight down vertically of its own weight when released by the lever and then locks.

    Pocket knife: Weird or normal?

I somewhere along the line acquired one of these. One-handed operation and pretty much foolproof.

    Wag-Aero's Demise

Pretty sure they already are for the most part. Look at form 1040 for verification. Excluding the edge cases such as tax-free municipal bonds where their dividends are not taxed at all.

    With extreme prejudice I assume!

    Pocket knife: Weird or normal?

As an aside, about a month ago Karen and I went to a Bat Mitzvah in Tampa. Security was high at the synagogue and I had to return to the car to stow my pocket knife. Thought it was a sad commentary on the times we’re living in.

    Wag-Aero's Demise

I don’t think that’s right. I don’t think Capital Gains taxes are based on “marginal” tax rates as is income. From the IRS: “A capital gains rate of 0% applies if your taxable income is less than or equal to: $44,625 for single and married filing separately; $89,250 for married filing jointly...

    Pocket knife: Weird or normal?

My daily carry: I forget the model. It’s a bit bulky, but gets used constantly. The scissors and tweezers get used pretty regularly in addition to the two blades. Some features are used rarely, but I don’t think there are any that have gone totally unused.

Taking a deeper dive into maneuvering speed

I don’t know if it helps or hurts, buy my mental model includes identically shaped planes with the same structural strength, but one is styrofoam and one is lead.

I recall that the rudder is not included here. That became apparent in an airliner accident caused by excessive rudder movement below Va.

I recall it’s because the higher weight causes the wing to unload sooner.

    Apple blows chunks

First off, I’ve been a happy Apple user since 1985 and my first 128k Macintosh. Deep in the ecosystem - computer, iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, Apple TV’s, Apple Music, Airtags, CarPlay and probably more. All pretty seamlessly linked. Like I said, happy campers. Wednesday I fell victim to a...

    Wag-Aero's Demise

So many of the things I might have purchased from Wag Aero or Aircraft Spruce I would now just order from Amazon. Same for bike stuff - I used to order from Bike Nashbar or Specialized on a regular basis, but haven’t in ages. Amazon has better selection, lower prices, quick delivery and painless...

    Base leg altitude

I don’t pay a lot of attention to the exact altitude on base, but I’d guess I’ve just begun descent as I turn base, so maybe 900’ at that point. And my GPS often gives me a 500’ callout as I’m turning final. That’s in my Light Sport, but I think it was not much different when flying my Cirrus.
