    Cirrus chute - all survive

Not necessarily. There are - or at least were, my copy of the POH is from 2013 - 3 pages in the POH on possible chute pull scenarios. The most relevant portion: Landing Required in Terrain not Permitting a Safe Landing If a forced landing on an unprepared surface is required CAPS activation...

    gear leg protector?

I just ran low on some Bowlus gap seal tape I use at the wing roots on my Sky Arrow, and ordered another roll. In the link below, it’s explained why the seller thinks it’s superior to the 3M product. https://www.cumulus-soaring.com/store/bowlus-tape-white-1in It’s available in different...

    Cirrus chute - all survive

Just a reminder… Landing spots that look pretty decent from the air may not look so great up close. Cirrus attempting a forced landing west of Miami. From the air: Up close: Not critiquing that pilot, in that it worked out OK. But it could have been worse.

    Name my dog

Steven Wright named his dog “Stay”. He just enjoyed the confused look on his dog’s face when he’d command, “Here Stay! Here Stay!”

Just saw our seventh “in the wild”. This one wrapped in flat black, and I think it looks pretty cool. Not the one we saw, naturally.

Dead Battery or just a weak pulse...

Like I said, most of the time you’ll be just fine charging the battery in the plane. But here’s just one such warning against, from the Cirrus SR22 POH…

Climb prop at high altitude cruise?

This. In normal operation, metal parts are not meeting - they are held apart by a thin film of oil. Evidenced by… 1) How quickly the engine destroys itself after the loss of oil pressure, when metal parts DO start meeting. 2) The fact that after thousands of hours of operation, hone marks may...

Dead Battery or just a weak pulse...

I’d probably try the trickle charge route. One caveat: Pretty sure all manufacturers recommend against charging a battery while installed in a plane. It may work the vast majority of the time, but batteries can and do explode on occasion. I’ve had it happen twice, fortunately not in a plane...

    My tailwheel training impressions..

Whatever works for you. But beyond a certain level of gustiness, I’d be nervous in a 3 pointer. Just as you’re about to touch down, the wrong gust at the wrong time can pop you back in the air, with precious little margin above the stall, if any. Which can make an abort at that point...

Climb prop at high altitude cruise?

You can argue that, but within normal operating range there’s no direct correlation between RPM and wear.

    Tesla Pickup Unveil

Allow me to be pedantic for a moment. I recent learned that most folks use “steep learning curve” improperly. A “steep” curve would imply something that one can be learned quickly. From Wikipedia: The common expression "a steep learning curve" is a misnomer suggesting that an activity is...
