Self Insuring an Airplane - Investment vehicles etc.

I've considered dropping hull coverage (~100k) on my Debonair. My premiums with hull/liability currently are around $1400/yr. I can't remember the exact figure for liability only, but it was around $500-600/yr. To this point, I've never had the cajones to do it for a savings of $800/yr...

Tesla Model 3 - Now I get the hype.

I trimmed a few shares this morning. Wished a owned a lot more, but easy to say in hindsight.

I'm too old to push my 182

Me testing out my new to me tug the others day. Saw it on craigslist for a good price and pounced on it. As luck would have it, it was located at my home airport. I was assuming I would have to drive somewhere to pick it up. Makes a world of difference. The Deb can be a bit heavy especially...

Can I really afford a Bonanza / Debonair??

Will, that’s insane they wanted you to put your hand sanitizer in a hazmat locker. Never heard that one before. Job security for someone I guess.....

Can I really afford a Bonanza / Debonair??

From a practical standpoint, I don't think there's a big difference at all. For whatever reason, fire codes generally do not permit storing fuel in a hangar. I guess fuel in the airplane doesn't count. Don't ask me!

Can I really afford a Bonanza / Debonair??

Up to this point, I could load the family with up to 15 lbs of luggage each and still be under gross, so I never had to worry about it. However the kids are continuing to grow and weight is starting to become a factor. I actually did a W&B a couple days ago with their current weights (105 and...

Can I really afford a Bonanza / Debonair??

No. If I was ever going to the let plane sit for a period of time I would fill it with avgas.

Can I really afford a Bonanza / Debonair??

I mounted a 90 gal DOT approved tank to an old Harbor Freight trailer I had. See profile pic. I keep the trailer in my hangar (empty). After a flight, I know exactly how much fuel I used from my EDM700 engine monitor. With this information in hand, I hook up the trailer and head to the gas...

Can I really afford a Bonanza / Debonair??

Hey Ben. Sorry I missed your post, haven't been on the board for a couple weeks. If you are looking to fly on a budget (I am certainly in that category). You can not go wrong, IMHO, with an autofuel capable Debonair (225 hp). I'm paying $1.75 for 87 Octane ethanol-free gas at the local...

Tesla Model 3 - Now I get the hype.

Truth be told, the lifetime MPG on the display is 125 mpg. When I bought the car it had about 3,000 miles on it (had been on the lot a while) and had been driven mostly on the ICE as near as I can tell (lifetime was around 40 mpg). I set up one of the trip meters to track the mpg since...

    Dynon HDX installed in PA32-300

Thanks for the video. I’m not ready to do anything for at least another year but I do like the Dynon system. How is the Dynon engine monitoring package? I love the EDM900/930, however it seems like it might be more cost effective to do the Dynon package. I currently have the EDM700 w/FF

Tesla Model 3 - Now I get the hype.

Nice write up . Thanks! My Volt is a Gen 1 as well (2015). I’m right around 184 mpg lifetime. I need to check out a Model 3 sometime. I’ve been in the X and S, never driven a Tesla though. Def keeping the airplane for now. No way I can afford both!

Tesla Model 3 - Now I get the hype.

I have to stop reading this thread! I currently drive a Chevy Volt, and love it, however a Model 3 is definitely on my mind. As Golfpilot mentioned, I too wonder if I had a Model 3 with autopilot if I wouldn’t start driving a lot more instead of flying. I would certainly save a ton of money...

Starting purchase research, trouble narrowing choices

Jakl, I have a C33 Debonair and absolutely love it. My kids are 14 & 11, and we are still able to do full fuel (74 g usable) with light baggage (Useful 1060). My wife and I are about 340# and the kids are roughly 190#. My wife does not like legs longer than about 2 hours (I don’t either). I...

NGT-9000 Lynx ADSB transponder. Got one? Like it? Tell me!

I just had the NGT9000 w/active traffic installed (along with a new IFD440) and love it so far. Like Martin, I’m very happy that I went with the active traffic option. I actually had a very close encounter on my first flight after install (ADS-B test flight). I was doing the typical test...

Can I really afford a Bonanza / Debonair??

I have a 65 Debonair and love it! I also burn mogas almost exclusively. 2.75/gal vs 4.75 at my local airport. That is huge if you have a limited flying budget, like myself. I think a mogas burning Deb or E185/225 Bo is about the best speed per fuel $ that you can get. Of course, I do have...

    Inexpensive twin

Nice TA, Brian! I bid on one last year, but was outbid in the end. Picked up a 65 C33 Deb back in Sept and loving it so far, especially the auto fuel. It’s in the shop now for ADS-B and also swapping out a non-WAAS GNS430 for an IFD440. Always liked the TA. Maybe I’ll get one eventually...

Can I ask anyone who has completed the Garmin upgrades how they like it?

For my install, decided to go with the IFD440. I should be able to sell my pristine non-WAAS 430 for around 4k or so. In the end the cost differential between upgrading my 430 and adding the FS210 was just to small compared to a new 440. No FS210 required, one less thing to install. In...

    Intercom Opinions, Please.

Chris, I have the PM1000 II. I had the old Sigtronics as well and it was pretty much T/U when I bought my airplane. Just like you, I wasn’t ready to dump a bunch of money into an all one one audio panel while my old Collins panel was still working fine. My mechanic recommended the PM1000 and...
