Kobe Bryant dead in helicopter crash

"20-30 feet from making it" If you watch the whole NTSB news conference and you look at the picture @Weekend Warrior posted, it becomes obvious that the 20-30 feet of clearance was from that little wrinkle/ridge in the side of the much larger overall mountain. The aircraft was in a descending...

    Colorado Plane crash

If it is the plane I think it is, yes, based at KEIK. I’m fairly sure...there are a number of identifying things about it.

    Colorado Plane crash

If that’s the plane it looks like to me, the owner and his brother have always been very nice to me when I’ve poked my nose into their hangar. It was really nasty windy/gusty here today... :( Location of crash appears to be around elevated terrain south of runway 33 approximately under the pattern.

Love this picture, I worked on the experiment housed in the building you're flying close to there. Good memories. :)

    Flight Bag Recommendations?

Which is why I have a stylus. I'm too cheap to pay Apple for their super expensive one...this works great: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008UGQ064/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Love tap at Reno Air Race

12 seconds and it was a 6 lap race, so does look like a pylon cut penalty. Thanks!

    Flight Bag Recommendations?

I've been enjoying using the bags police officers use when on patrol (lots cheaper). But I still like carrying a lot of stuff. https://www.voodootactical.net/molle-gear/propper-f5692-molle-law-enforcement-patrol-bag-ride-along-pack-black.html

Love tap at Reno Air Race

I was looking at the results and saw the blue plane was assessed a time penalty. I'm not familiar with the rules...does anyone know what he is considered to have done wrong? To my eye it looks like the overtaking plane is passing him quite quickly and too closely so that when he rolls for the...

once the wheels leave the ground....

I know I'm being serious in a joke thread, but ran across something interesting that makes me curious...found this... http://www.aero-news.net/index.cfm?do=main.textpost&id=4fe4df0b-f2d0-42a1-8bae-7886d10f028d "The more modern aircraft are designed with the engine offset [from center line] to...

once the wheels leave the ground....

Basically, the answer to the question is that the planes most of us fly don't have all that much torque created by the prop relative to the rotational inertia of the plane, so a little bit of aileron is enough to stop it. Little enough that it mostly isn't noticeable compared to all the other...

For CFIs who instruct in C150/152s...

I did my PPL checkride recently in a 152 with me and the DPE totaling 390 lbs. Airport altitude >5000 ft. August. We did not have full tanks. ;)

Are checkrides longer than they used to be?

My PPL last week: 8am - 8:45am = paperwork 8:45 - 11:30 = oral (flight plan, regulations, weather) 11:30 - 2:00pm = in/around the plane (1.8 Hobbs) and debrief. DPE complemented my CFI, saying I was well prepared and this was a short one. Overall feel seemed to be I was about an 8/10.

Physicist here who just did Private checkride. 8am to 2pm.
