    Korean 777 Down in SFO

While I agree with most of the points you make I think it is important that we do not make the mistake of assuming that flawless weather makes things easy. In fact you can argue the exact opposite here because if the weather had been lets say IFR/IMC then the aircraft would've been spaced...

    Korean 777 Down in SFO

A visual approach can absolutely be stressful. Especially if they dropped them in like they say they may have and the airplane was in a high energy state and had a while to descent to make their altitude restrictions. Also consider that they had be flying a very long flight essentially all of...

    Darker ILS "beam"

It certainly is different. Quite frustrating that the chart would be like this even if it were noticed. Given the fact that MANY distinctions on aeronautical charts are made by shading. As TehMightyPirate said it looks like it is a regular glide slope with another darker yet slightly smaller...

    Best Looking Single Prop Aircraft?

I have to agree with Dave. Surprised no one else picked the Lancair Legacy. Although the Spitfire and Staggerwing are certainly a close 2nd and 3rd.

My point remains. The approach to stall was caused by the autopilot. Despite the AP and AT being engaged the aircraft was put into an approach to stall. I understand the pitch limit is +30/-15. I assume that the AP was going for maximum lift in this instance. But it just doesn't seem right to...

As I understand it Normal Law provides protection for a normal flight envelope. In this case the "aircraft rotated through 26 degrees nose up." The speed decreased to 130 knots. I assume this was a high AOA. The normal law should have protect against a high AOA. Based on the report had the AP...

    Imc

Ron, I was wondering if you or anyone else could point be to a physical copy of the letter. Signed and all. I have searched the web to include the FAA's database of Legal Interpretations & Chief Counsel's Opinions but not found anything. I assume that is because the letter is dated. This...

I should have taken your avatar more seriously when responding to you. The point remains that the airbus flight control laws are created to prevent such a situation as an "approach to stall.":rolleyes2:

Aren't the flight control laws supposed to prevent the AP from stalling the airplane even if is commanded to do that? In this case the crew initiated the AP & AT were initiated and caused a stall.

I find it odd that the autopilot is not listed as a contributing factor. Perhaps the Airbus Flight Control Laws need an update or something. Given this and AF 447. Seems either the crew are clearly not setting the ap correctly or they are and the Airbus flight control laws aren't working...

    Korean 777 Down in SFO

Wayne, I've had to teach a couple of advanced cockpit systems and automation courses at my local aviation college. The first thing I do is tell everyone that none of it is necessary. Then I show them the "Children of the Magenta" video. I am in complete agreement with everything taught in...

    Korean 777 Down in SFO

I design computer based trainers for airliners such as the 777 and have extensive experience in Level-D simulators for Boeing and McDonnell Douglas aircraft. I have to say that the monotony of the SOP can serve to degrade piloting ability. As many have already pointed out those are the...

    Washing airplanes price

I had a conversion with a couple of guys in the hangar today about how much would it cost to wash a Cessna Caravan. No one really specialized at washing planes so I thought I'd bring this here. So, anyone know what would be a typical price to wash a Cessna Caravan (on floats)? Thanks in...

Flying an non-IFR certified aircraft legally in IMC?

Why the FAA is or isn't restrictive and why they implement the regs they do is a matter of opinion and as such your opinion of how "irresponsible" or "stupid" these "decision might be is simply your opinion. Clearly every boy here is out to prove which amongst them has the bigger...um...

    Gettysburg

I was actually thinking of going into there myself one of these weeks. I am curious if the fact that it is on the big white DCA square will complicate the procedure to get into there. Please report back on how your trip went.
