    Malaysian Airliner missing?

I've been having the same thoughts.

    Exactly what I was thinking.

    Malaysian Airliner missing?

Relief crews on a 5.5 hour flight? Seems unlikely. A inference can be made if every other MAS370 has radar coverage recorded on FF for that portion but this one doesn't. Not saying the NTSB will cite FF in their final report...

    Malaysian Airliner missing?

Most of this doesn't add up. The flightaware track ends over land. Flights on previous days didn't end the track until reaching China - which it appears flightaware can not get info for. The posted news report says ATC lost contact 2.5 hours in but that would put the plane further down the road...

Part 61 versus Part 141 PPL training

That is not why I recommended 141 but I see how you could make that assumption. I said that because at least at a 141 you won't have to start from square one if you change instructors because they are terrible instructors. My personal experience has been that 141 schools seem to have both the...

Why do Cirrus drivers get such disrespect?

Agree. I suppose I associate poor levels of instruction with Cirrus pilots.

Why do Cirrus drivers get such disrespect?

Don't know that I necessarily agree with Henning's assertion but he might be right about the majority of pilots. I personally have had known and met a lot of Cirrus pilots, some are highly skilled pilots but the majority that I have met are folks who get into a plane as a toy and are not very...

Part 61 versus Part 141 PPL training

If you can find a good instructor who you think is a good person and intelligent/capable then I highly suggest you go 61. If you can not then go 141.

How do these guys get their ratings?

...I'm sitting in a classroom at a aviation college whose name will not be mentioned and overhearing commercial pilots talking about accelerated stalls. I hear them say their instructor put the airplane into 60 degrees bank and showed them an accelerated stall. They describe how terrified they...

    Learn to Turn

I have no arguments there. None whatsoever. I agree. An airplane can replace the helo in that drawing and it would be correct. What I am saying here is the method by which you do this in a helicopter is not, as Greg said "...same as everything else." :mad2:

    Learn to Turn

Yes but you quote what I said and I said: What's the sense in restating what I said? I wasn't arguing that. I was saying that helicopters do not apply in this conversation because the method by which they accomplish the turn is not the same. The rotor is an elevator, aileron, and wing all in...

    Learn to Turn

I couldn't agree that it is the same as everything else. If that were the case then the entire wing could be tilted horizontal to turn irrespective of the airframe. There is that difference that you must acknowledge. On helicopters the rotors tilt then the frame follows. Here the rotors act as a...

    Learn to Turn

I think what Rich is trying to convey here is this: When flying straight and level you are doing that by having the ELEVATOR maintain that ATTITUDE/ANGLE OF ATTACK that will result in no change in altitude or heading. If we can agree on this then we can agree that the next logical thing...

It can't be a greaser, plant it on the deck and get it stopped!

Those DHC-6 Pilots are something though! That is really impressive stop on that Otter. Go-Arounds are good to practice. People don't think to practice them like they do other flight maneuvers like slow flight, stalls, and touch and goes. But they are just as important if not more in some...

    Private Pilot Moving an Airplane?

Pulling the Prop through by Hand

Yes I agree. From the information I have it is primarily for the purpose of avoiding hydraulic lock. I should've made that clearer in my post.

Pulling the Prop through by Hand

Neither am I. Nor am I trying to catch you being wrong or anything. Just trying to understand this discussion best. Certainly something I can stand to learn. My logic here is given the understanding that the oil pump will really not pump oil until we actually get ignition - or close to there -...

Pulling the Prop through by Hand

Are you saying that when you crank the starter oil will be flowing immediately?

Pulling the Prop through by Hand

Best I can tell from my very limited knowledge base, this is something that has been carried over from radial engines where there is clearly are need to do this prior to a start. As for whether or not turning the prop by hand a few times will loosen up the oil and reduce viscosity which would...
