Searching for a blank Cessna Aircraft Log Book (Form P121-13)

Fellow aviation peeps, I'm hunting for at least one (possibly two) original blank Cessna Aircraft logbooks (Form P121-13). A neat thing about my 172H is that all of the logbooks are actually in the original Cessna books. I have several of the blank engine logbooks, but none of the Aircraft...

    Least Expensive ADS-B Out System

Basically said that it was not an approved ADS-B device... He's had multiple issues from the company too, and I feel bad because I recommended it to him. Basically its a $1900 paperweight now. YMMV, but I'd stay away from that company.

    Least Expensive ADS-B Out System

I have a friend who bought one of those... He was personally called by the feds and threatened with an enforcement action if he didn't disable it.

Krylon fusion paint works well too (walmart).

    VAL INS 429

I'd have to say that bnt83 is correct. A Full IFR panel today would have the WAAS/LPV GPS as the gold standard. You can usually find a decent options with a unit like the INS-429. bnt83 and I have both been flying to the same destination, and I found myself wondering what to do with the YKN...

    Brittan Autopilot

I love my Brittain CSA-2 and B-11 combo... I actually just finished up getting a Field Approval to add the PC/AH II pitch stabilization and altitude hold added to my C-172H. Now it's just a matter of waiting for my time on the waiting list to expire! Then the plane will fly in a straight...

Hope you didnt buy a Navworks UAT

IMHO, it's a good thing to go online and make your comments on the NPRM... The FAA's claim that this will be a major detriment to aviation safety is a reach at best. Thousands of military planes have yet to be ADSB equipped, and there isn't a whole lot of extra cash laying around to fix that...

    Cleaning and gapping spark plugs

Interesting note... I hadn't read that anywhere, but it would make sense! Thanks!

    Cleaning and gapping spark plugs

Although I do agree with you that the tester does have some utility, (and I have used it when available) I just can't justify the expense myself... Another possible outcome of high resistance plugs is damage to the magneto internals. The electrical spark is intended to cross a gap at a...

    Cleaning and gapping spark plugs

That's what I thought too, until I started comparing results of the ohmmeter test to the bomb tester. Ultimately, the meter is much more sensitive and will give you better results. I had almost three dozen (champion) plugs that I ran through the bomb tester and they passed the check. However...

Hope you didnt buy a Navworks UAT

I don't have any knowledge of this particular incident, but my guess (based on similar experience) is that this is a company who is a victim of the approval process working at "the speed of government." IMHO, It probably has NOTHING to do with the device actually meeting specifications... I...

    Cleaning and gapping spark plugs

IMHO, the pressure "bomb" tester was a ruse to get shops to fork over $1800 of hard earned cash to Champion... Its mostly bunk... The HFT brand pneumatic spark plug cleaner works very nicely (HFT Item #32860) for blasting the electrodes clean - $17.99 7/8" Oxgen Sensor Socket (HFT Item #69022)...

Any cheaper to paint a solid color?

I'm in the middle of a pretty in-depth exterior refurb of my '67 C-172 right now. It's not a job for the faint of heart! Now, I wanted the convenience of doing most all of the work in my own 2-car garage, so I pulled all of the flying surfaces off to further that goal. "Beware of scope...

    New radio, logbook entry question

If you did work on the airplane, then legally you are required to log that work. Required maintenance record information is covered under FAR 43.9. It states that on the completion of the work, you must make out a maintenance record that has at least the following information: A description...

    Aircraft Finish Spot Repairs

I personally use 3M Scotch-Brite 6" scuffing discs on my random orbital air sander for larger work. Part #3m-07467 (Maroon General Purpose) most often. Also, if you have the 2" Roloc conditioning disc mount the 3M-07515 maroon discs are great as well. Be careful, as the standard for materials...

    A&P progression

A lot will depend on which inspector you go to do your interview with... I spoke to two or three different FSDO inspectors (at different FSDOs) and to summarize what they told me: "If all you have is military experience, don't bother coming to schedule an interview." -So, I sat on my stuff...

Just being curious, who types of costs are associated with doing the 24 month IFR cert?

I just got my ASI and ALT back from the shop. Both overhauled and dials refaced to look like new. $398, which included return shipping. Awesome!

Cowl Fasteners for C-182 Need Replaced

I recently replaced all of the southco fasteners (and the two a-loc fasteners in the oil door) as well as replaced all of the riveted-in receptacles on my cowl. Believe it or not, all of the southcos were replaced and all the sizes matched what the factory said they should be. The southco kit...

    compression: one cylinder low OK?

Not really a concern... Just keep an eye on it. My #5 was similar when I purchased it in 2009, in 2015 (~400 hours later) it was very low and I removed it from service and replaced with an overhauled one. This year everything was peachy! The O-300 powered Skyhawk is the smoothest flying...
