    63 Cessna 182F 0470R #5 not firing at idle

If it makes anyone feel better to have another data point, our bird has an IO-470S with stock injectors (no GAMI yet) and it pretty much does the same thing when cold and/or idling. Compressions are perfect, plugs are great, mags almost new, engine is about 450 SMOH. I had some unevenness with...

    Prop Painting

If you watch a video or two of how a prop shop actually overhauls a FP prop, you might change your tune. Obviously not as complicated as working on a CS prop, but they do a LOT more work than I expected... V/r, Dana

    Cessna hacks

The 210 has some brake line clips glued to the strut with similar function, I cut a couple pieces of Aeroquip 306 hose and stuck them on the line... It's what I had laying around.

    Weatherstripping

Your local aviation big box store has some EPDM rubber stuff for the actual seal that works great for about $8. The metal reinforced rubber edge trim for the window sill edge is from brown aircraft supply, but you still need the other stuff too.

    DIY interiors

Bottom line, almost any type of material used in upholstery, whether auto, marine, or aviation will likely have some kind of burn cert... Just make sure that it meets your individual needs, if you decide CAR3, FAR23, ASTM, FMVSS302, etc... Much of my previous interior came from perfectfit.com...

Inexpensive but Capable. What have you done?

Sitting here pondering the amount that we've put in our 210B since initial purchase last summer: Audio Panel: LNIB (used) GMA-347 from a source I trust = $800 GPS (primary nav): Brand New GPS-175 purchased online = $4100 Indicator: LNIB (used) GI-106A = $840 (w/new install kit) Comm #1: Used...

    1st Annual in our C-182

At a minimum, all the areas under FAR 43, Appendix D. Normally there are some model unique inspection items that should be covered as well... An oil change is not part of the annual, as that would be considered preventive maintenance. The required items under the annual inspection are not...

    Help! Alternator issues Cessna 150-B

I had similar issues with our C-150 years ago, until I went back and shot every wire in the system from the alternator to the voltage regulator. Ultimately, I replaced the VR with a solid-state one and repaired the wiring at the same time.

    What happened to Skysensor TSO?

What you really need is befriend a properly rated maintenance technician who is willing to act in a common sense manner... I actually got the FAA Small Airplane directorate to sign off on connecting my handheld GPS o_O to a device that translated it's CDI outputs into course guidance :eek...

What's Lowest Cost Plane to Book Hours In?

$50 a month is pretty standard for a tie down... Seriously, get a C-150, or another 2-seater that doesn't mind sitting outside while you put most of your money in the fuel tank...

Advice For Leveling Plane To Set Slip/Skid Indicator

As an update, our C210 was doing the same thing... Step #1 was to re-rig the flaps--they were slightly mismatched when retracted, which caused a bit more lift to be generated on the right wing. With the flaps rigged correctly, I started looking at the ailerons. Step #2 was to re-rig the...

Old Parts (What to do with them)

Don George down in Florida used to have a steal of a deal for overhauling used cylinders, although for a low time cylinder with a leaking valve a simple repair/rehone/re-ring might suffice... As for the starter: repair kits can be as low as $20 if the windings and bearings are all intact, then...

    Record-setting Battery?

You can disassemble/clean/repair the starter too... They are dead simple inside... The last three I worked on maybe needed $20 worth of parts (total, for all three).

    Overflying Chicago IFR to Milwaukee

I just filed IFR, and let the system take care of it. I ended flying directly over ORD with no issues (Cessna 172).
