Tesla Model 3 - Finally.

Several years ago I was doing some work in a Michelin warehouse when I noticed a batch of lower profile tires coming down the line that had about 1 - 1.5" of foam - like the packing foam in a camera or gun case - stuck along the tread part of the inside of the tire. I asked what that was all about and they said it was extra noise deadening for electric vehicles.
Yes! My factory tires were the Continental ProContact RX "ContiSilent" made specifically for Tesla. The "ContiSilent" refers to having the foam inside. Each brand has a different name for it.

FWIW, these Goodyears are even quieter, but AFAIK they don't have the foam. I think maybe they designed the treads to somehow be lower noise?

Which Goodyears are ya using? I’ve heard the foam doesn’t make all that big of a difference. I’ve got Scorpions on the X. They do alright but I’m still looking for something quieter. Kinda hard with 22s though.

Sorry, it was in an earlier post. Goodyear ElectricDrive 2. Seemed to be the best value for a tire that was quiet and had low rolling resistance.

I went with the stock Michelins when replacing the originals, largely because they were a know quantity and still had tread left at 42,000 miles.

I’d rank my tire priorities right now in descending order as:

1) Noise
2) Tire life
3) Efficiency
4) Handling

I have maybe 10,000 miles left on my second set of Michelins. Might just try the Goodyears next time around.

As an aside, I’ve had nothing but good experiences with Discount Tire. Prompt, courteous service, and they went out of their way to fit us in when out travel trailer had a blowout on a Texas trip. Until very recently I did my own tire rotations every 10,000, but now I let Discount Tire do it, since it’s free and takes very little time in and out.

I considered both my stock Continentals as well as the Michelins that others like you have gotten stock; everyone seems to be happy with both. Whoever chooses tires for Tesla appears to do well.

I have heard the same, and also had good experiences myself. I had the latest set put on at Discount Tire. They're called "America's Tire" in some places.
